    All,

In an effort to start documenting what can be changed/altered/enabled/disabled on the new Q7 (4M), I am creating this post/thread to keep all the information in one single place. This post is a "sticky" so will remain at the top of the Q7 forum. I will then keep this post updated as more information is uncovered. Of course, anyone can contribute by replying to this thread and I'll do my best to add it to the first post so all the information is stored in one easy place at the top.

    Background

Audi/Seat/VW and other cars have always had the ability to be interogated from a computer diagnostic level to see what is within the car. This is all done via the ODB II connector you will find under your footwell on the drivers side of your car. Its a purple connector (colour could be different) and by connecting a device to this along with a laptop (or nowadays even a mobile phone with an app) we are able to interface with the cars computer systems and see whats inside, whats configured and in some cases alter, change, enabled and disable things.

Some items are easy to change because they are the same across varying cars (like all Audi models for example) while other items are much harder to change/alter because they are (for example) stored behind security access which requires getting past. Even then, some items are not available because to alter them they require "calling home" to Audi HQ to make the changes.

That all being said, there is a lot available to look into and that is what this thread will attempt to detail.

    Q7 (4M)

The new S/Q7 (4M) is one of the first cars from Audi to utilise a newer platform they call MLB 2 (somtimes refered to as 'MLBEvo') Do a search for these terms online to read more about them.

The downside to this is the new Q7 (4M) utilises the new MLB2 platform, and so a lot of the information around changes that were uncovered under the older MLB platform (common across many Audi's/VWs etc) do not apply to this new platform. We are effectively starting from scratch again to uncover what may be possible and sadly this just takes time.

In addition, the systems used to connect to the platform, in some cases themselves require updates/changes to be able to interface with the car. As you can imagine, this also takes time as those vendors start to peel back the layers of the MLB2 platform and learn how to interrogate it.

On the plus side, there are many enthusiasts, such as myself keen to understand and break these barriers down and I have been talking a number of folk across the world to see what is possible and we are slowly making progress.

    Devices

There are many devices you can purchase online to connect to your car. Anyone can purchase these and you dont need to be a car dealer/mechanic to get hold of them. However some of them can be very powerful and if you dont know what your doing you could end up with a car that wont start/lock/turnover or whatever else. This would involve getting it to a dealer to effectively be "factory reset" which no doubt will come at a price!

I have only worked with 2 devices and I do not work for either of these companies but over the last 6 years of using them I find them good for my needs. There are other products available but I have no experience of any other products so unfortunately can't comment on them. Some may be able to do the same/more/less.

The two I use are called VCDS (Vag Com Diagnostic System) and VCP (Vag Com Pro). A quick search online and you can find out about these, their cost and how to use them.

Update 2/11/2016: I am now starting to include ODBEleven device coding changes for those of you that have an ODBEleven device. Will add as we uncover them.

    Coding / Adaption Changes

Below I will start to detail what changes can be made that we have uncovered so far.

    1. These are nearly all for the Q7 4M ONLY.
    2. *** Ensure you create a backup of your car before making any changes. In VCDS for example, do a complete "Auto Scan" and let it finish before carrying out any coding. Save the output (txt file) to your computer. ***
    3. If something doesn't work as expected go straight back to the change you made and revert it to avoid losing track of what you altered.
    4. The changes below will have been done by either VCDS (with a Hex-NET Interface) and/or VCP or in some cases ODBEleven. I'll detail which system for each one. It may be possible other devices can use the same steps.
    5. I accept no responsibility for any damage this may cause to your car. I detail the below to the best of my knowledge and as safely as possible. Follow the steps and you should be fine. If your unsure, ask.

    Useful Helpers

    MMI Reboot

Sometimes the changes require the MMI to be rebooted (like a 3 finger salute on a computer) for changes to show up/take effect. Switching the ignition off/on isnt enough

In the Q7 (4M) a 3 Finger salute is done by holding the Nav and Radio Buttons "up" and then pressing the main rotary knob. This will cause the MMI to do a quick reboot.

Note: Yes, you can do this while driving.

    Seat Belt Chime Disable

Description: By default, if the driver or any other passenger does not have their seat belt engaged a "Chime" will repeatedly make a noise until the seat belt is engaged if you start driving. There appears to be two methods to disable this Seat Belt chime.
    Method 1: Using Long Coding
Method 2: Changing an Adaptation Channel
Notes: The chime is disabled for the driver and any passenger in the front or middle row. The 5 seat icon on the instrument cluster will still show when seats are occupied when using the Adaptation Channel method as far as we can tell.
    Usage: None
    Risk: Low
    Software: VCDS

    Method 1
    :

    1. Module 17 (Instruments)
    2. Coding

Tailgate Opening Delay - Via Remote Key Fob

Description: When you stand near the rear of the car and press & hold the middle boot "release" button on the key fob, the boot will open and rise after a 0.8 second (800ms) delay. This coding can change the delay to a longer value (e.g. 2.0 seconds (2000ms))
Notes: Only tested on a Q7 4M with Advanced Key option but should work on any. Value only tested is 2000ms. Not sure what maximum value can be or if value can be lower than 800ms
Usage: Use with middle boot/trunk release key on key fob
    Risk: Low
    Software: VCDS
    Coding:

    1. Module 46 (Central Convenience)
    2. Adaptation
    3. Scroll down and find channel "Time for opening rear lid with remote control"
    4. Load Stored Value (should be 800 ms)
    5. Enter new value in "ms". Example: 2000
    6. Do It
    7. Test the delay

Adaptive Cruise Control Distance Regulation Set

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars that are fitted with ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) you can set the default "Distance" the ACC sets to when you enable ACC. The Default value is "3 Lines".
Notes: Will only work in cars with Adaptive Cruise Control fitted. Do not attempt if you dont have ACC. If you have HUD (Head Up Display) it will flash up the distance level you have set when you switch the ignition on.
Usage: Once MMI rebooted (see above), go into Car/Driver Assist/Audi Adaptive Cruise Control. You should see a new menu called "Basic Setting" (It might be called "Standard Setting" if your in the USA). Choose this to set the Distance Level from 1 to 5 (each one representing a "line"). Finally. once set, push the ACC stalk all the way out (towards front of car) so its fully off. Click it back in. This switches ACC "off" and "on" and is needed to pick up the new setting.
    Risk: Medium
Software: VCDS / VCP (Others may work)
    Coding:

    1. Module 13 (Auto Dist. Regulation)
    2. Security Access
    3. Enter Code "20103"
    4. Do It
    5. It should say "Security Code Accepted"
    6. Go into Adaptation (Still in Module 13)
    7. Scroll through channel list to "Distance basic setting option"
    8. Stored Value should be "Off" (Default)
    9. Set New Value to "On"
    10. Do It
    11. Exit
    12. Reboot MMI using Reboot method in top post of this thread.

    Lock/Unlock "Chirp"

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars in the USA, when you lock the car, you will hear a single or double "chirp" (from a second sounder, not the horn). This is a good audible confirmation that the car is locked. This coding enables lock chirp on Non-USA cars but also enables an "unlock" chirp if/when the car is unlocked.
Notes: There are many options to configure including how long the chirps are, whether you want single or double chirps for lock/unlock as well as updating the indicator flashes to match the number of chirps. There is both Long Coding & Adaption Changes for this modification.
Usage: Once coded it will work immediately on lock/unlock. In addition, if you lock the car (if you have Advanced Key) using the padlock button on the trunk, the chirp will sound when the trunk is fully engaged. You can also turn off the "Chirp" via the MMI under Car / Vehicle Settings / Central Locking
Risk: Medium / High (Depending on number of options you change). Please note there are a lot of combinations below so please GO SLOWLY.

    Coding:

    1. Module 46 (Central Convenience)

Seat Symmetry + Passenger Seat Control

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars that have BOTH Driver and Passenger memory seats installed (with the buttons in the doors) you can make both the drivers seat and passenger seat "line up" so they are symmetrical. In addition, you can move the passenger seat using the seat movement buttons on the drivers seat. This change enables these features if you have ONLY Driver Memory Seat installed
Notes: Not been tested on Q7 4M cars that have neither driver or driver/passenger memory seats installed but it should work. You need to do the SAME coding in Modules 06 and 36.
Usage: Once coded, go into MMI, Car / Vehicle Settings / Seats. A new option for Passenger Seat will have appeared. There will be 2 options inside. One to line both front seats up together, and the other to move the passenger seat with the driver seat movement buttons

Enable & Pair a Second Phone via Bluetooth simultaneously

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars that have the "Audi Phone Box" installed (Wireless Charging Cradle etc.) you get the ability to have 2 phones simultaneously connected to the car via Bluetooth. If you do not have the Audi Phone Box you can only have 1 phone connected via Bluetooth at any one time. This change enables the ability to connect 2 phones simultaneously via Bluetooth without the Audi Phone Box being installed.
Notes: Reboot MMI after configuring Adaptation channel.
Usage: Once configured and MMI rebooted go into "Connection Manager" in the MMI and you will see a new line to pair a second phone. See photo below.
    Risk: Low.

    Coding:

    1. Module 5F - Information Electronics
    2. Adaptation
    3. Scroll down till you find channel "IDE03471-ENG130247-Vehicle configuration-Support_second_phone" (name may be slightly shorter in ODBEleven)

Enable Ability to lock car with Engine running

Description: By Default Q7 (4M) cars can't be locked via the lock button on the keyfob or the button on the door (if you have convenience key) if the engine is running. This change enables the car to be locked while the engine is running. This is useful to say, for example warm the car up but keep it locked on your driveway.
Notes: If you having folding mirrors, they do not retract once you lock the car.
Usage: Once configured start car engine, get out car and lock. Engine will remain running.
    Risk: Low.

    "Energy Consumers" in Cockpit Enable

Description: It was found that the "Energy Consumers" option in the 'Car' section on the Virtual Cockpit was not displaying on all Q7 4M's from factory. This coding change enables that option.
Notes: This has not been tested on a Q7 4M without Virtual Cockpit, but its highly likely it will work.
Usage: Once configured you will find a new "Energy Consumers" section on the information panel on the Cockpit (as shown by picture link below)
    Risk: Low.

    Coding:

    1. Module 17
    2. Coding
    3. Long Coding
    4. Long Coding Helper
    5. Byte 1
    6. Tick Bit 7 ("Body Computer with efficiency program,Yes")

Enable Easy Entry for Drivers Seat

Description: By Default Q7 (4M) cars that have the electric steering column option, the drivers seat will move back automatically when the car is turned off and the drivers door is opened to allow easy exit of the vehicle. In addition, when unlocking the car and opening the drivers door the drivers seat will move back to allow easy entry and upon starting the car the seat will move forward back to the last position. If you have Convenience/Advanced Key and Driver Memory seats then when you start the car the seat will move to whatever memory recall is stored on the key used to unlock the car (linked with button 1 or 2 of the driver memory seat buttons in the door trim). This change enables this feature when the electric steering column is not installed.
Notes: This has not been tested on a Q7 4M without driver memory seat buttons, but it should work. Also, you may find the Easy Entry option "greyed out" in the mmi. If so, lock the car, wait 30 seconds then unlock and try the menu option again.
Usage: Once configured get out at lock the car and wait 30 seconds, go back into car and start electrics, you should see Easy Entry option under "Vehicle Settings / Seats / Drivers Seat". Make sure its ticked.
    Risk: Low.

    Coding:

    1. Module 09 Central Electrics
    2. Coding
    3. Long Coding
    4. Long Coding Helper
    5. Byte 14
    6. Tick Bit 2 (easy_entry_steering_column_via_mmi_configurable,a ctive)
    7. Exit
    8. Do It

    Coding:

    4. Long Coding Helper
    5. Byte 3
    6. Tick Bit 6 (Easy_Entry_front,0=not active / 1=active)
    7. Exit
    8. Do It

If you want Easy Entry enabled on the Passenger seat then repeat as below but for Module 06 (Seat Memory Passenger) instead of Module 36

    1. Module 06 Seat Memory Passenger
    2. Coding

Disable Child Lock on Rear Heating Controls when Child Lock buttons enabled in Drivers door

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars that have the "Deluxe" rear heating controls (in the middle between the front seats with the LCD display etc), if you have the Child Lock buttons switched on via the driver's door buttons to stop the rear doors from being opened from the inside, this also disables the rear heating controls from being used. Instead when you attempt to use them a "Padlock" symbol is displayed. This change disables that so the rear doors can still be child lock "protected" but the rear heating controls will work.
Notes: Only tested on the "Deluxe" rear heating controls with the LCD screen and the red/blue heater controls.
Usage: Enable the Child Lock buttons on the drivers door trim by the window up/down controls and the rear doors will be child lock protected from opening from the inside, however the rear heating controls will still be changeable.
    Risk: Low

    Adaption:

    1. Module 28 - HVAC Rear
    2. Coding
    3. Long Coding Helper
    4. Byte 11
    5. Untick Bit 7 (child_proof_lock,0=not installed / 1=installed)
    6. Tick "Soft Reset" (in the Long Coding Helper in VCDS)
    7. Do it

If using ODBEleven you may need to "reboot" the HVAC Rear Module (Module 28) using the reboot option in ODBEleven. I dont have ODBEleven but there should be one. Otherwise you may find the rear HVAC controls just Flashing on/off.

There is no pressure to donate anything, nor would I ever ask, but if you feel the desire to so I can keep up the development of coding/retrofitting to share with you all then the link below will allow you to do just that of any amount you desire. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Ian, yes most if not all should be do-able via ODBEleven.
