Mine has been giving around 10% less MPG, I have written to Audi...nothing back yet (I guess I am not supposed to be surprised) power delivery and acceleration seem unaffected. mines a 2012 A4 177 Quattro black edition Avant. I am also on Conti's, will be making a change when they wear out, they are great tyres, but I take on board the fuel rating.

Not been on here for a very long time, so I've only just seen these posts. Mine dropped approx 5-6mpg across the board after the update. I spoke to the Audi UK emissions team who were completely uninterested and useless. They wanted me to pay the dealer 50 for a diagnostics test before they'd admit there was a problem. After a lot of persistence, my local dealer took it back in (FOC), they couldn't find a fault but did a reset and applied the fix again. Since then the consumption has been back to how it was before.
10 out of 10 to the dealer, 0 out 10 for Audi UK.

I've had my letter through to get my 2.0 TDI B8 A4 done. After reading this I'm a little dubious about getting it done!

I'm in the same boat with both of my B8s having had the call but I'm reluctant to let Audi mess with them when I'm not even told just what they will do and what it will achieve.

If this tweek makes no difference at all, costs us no extra in tax, insurance or anything else and the car is running fine as is, I really don't see any point bringing it in, or am I missing something?

Had emissions fix on my VW Polo 1.6tdi 6 weeks ago not been the same since - rough ideling, engine vibrating when stationary - engine labouring although it generally drives ok - maybe some loss of power on acceleration. It's bern with VW for 3 days, they could find anything wrong - I picked it up and returned it within an hour with a video of the problem I'd been experiencing. After 2 days of turf her tests they are saying it is a transmission issue (dual mass flywheel) VW want 350 to remove the gearbox and that's just diagnostics. Asked them to re-set back to factory setting said they don't have the capability to do that. Gutted my car was perfect before this fix, if I'd have known beforehand that it wasn't compulsory I would not have had it done. Anyone else had rough ideling problems and vibrating, labouring engine since the fix?

I avoided the software update after reading this:

Looks like it will be covered on BBC Watchdog soon.

I wrote on another thread in here that after I complained to Audi they arranged it to go back in to check if the update had been done correctly, this was after my EGR valve failed which now seems a common failure after the update, I didn't put the two together at the time. They "checked" the update and said it was fine but applied another patch that was or the air con, which I now view as an air "con" They also took it on their mpg test route and say it returns the mpg they would expect! I am still 10% down on pre update figures, yet the air "con" update has improved throttle response and torque, it feels more like my B6 1.9 tdi which was remapped by chip and spin a few years back (on 230k and still going strong)

So after a few months seeing how the situation develops I think its time to get back in touch with Audi and possibly get a bit militant, I feel we are all being shafted I really do, I also find myself looking at different cars away from VAG, after 25 years they have finally broken my spirit, idiots!

    Hi,

Just my two cents...having done some research on this (albeit online) it appears that the emissions fix causes the EGR valve to be used more often, and the exhaust to produce more particulate matter (Pre-DPF). As such you can expect a shorter DPF lifetime and potentially shorter life on other components such as the EGR valve. A number of people are complaining about more frequent DPF regens, reduced Engine power and poor performance. Its also not currently mandatory...even though dealers may make out that it is.

Some further info that I based this info on is here:

oh and look at the letter from the Department of Transport here too:

I had my software updated 10 months ago now. On leaving the service centre then, I noticed a change in the way my A4 170 Avant B8 drove.
On pulling away and having just gone up a gear, I noticed less power, and seemed to be noisier, but i put up with it.
Wind forward to early June 2017 and I've booked a holiday. On the 2nd day the engine management light comes on, which kind of killed the holiday to be honest as I couldn't make any plans until somebody could look at the car.

A local independant service centre stepped in to help me and found the error was given by the pressure sensor for the Diesel Particulate FIlter.
He reset it and sent me off to get some DPF cleaner to put into the diesel.

Last Saturday the Engine Management light came on again. On Monday I was informed it was the same error and that a new sensor may solve the problem, but the errors kept repeating.

It seemed like I was going to have to have the DPF replaced, (which is roughly 1000 job)
An independant VAG specialist was sent my way by a friend, who checked the car over, found the DPF clean as a whistle, and no other faults, apart from a problem with the Software update, to remove the cheat emission software that Audi uploaded 10 months ago.

The car was factory reset to it's original settings, and I no longer have engine management light coming on, and I have the power back.
If I had of had the DPF changed, I could have been paying out again in another 10 months if this hadn't been found. So I hope this info will help somebody else.

I wonder what Audi will do for me to apologise for my losses, or make me want to buy Audi again? I won't hold my breath.
