Cant help you with a specific location in Scotland. But it does seem very hit and miss as to who can do it. I live in Leeds and got mine no zero problem at a local VW van centre. But then ive known people go to other van centres who have never done it and have trouble getting it done.

It does seem that way, I have taken it to 2 places 1 VW commercial dealer, says can't be done the other I'm still waiting on a reply from VW in Germany. I was hoping someone has had it done in Scotland so the garage already knew the process.

If they say it cant be done, they're lying. Like i say my van centre didnt even hesistate when i asked them to do it. Was done in half hour and cost £40. I think its a case of ringing all vw van centres that you can and see if they can do it. The only 3rd party garage i know that can do it (there's probably others) is Pendle in lancashire... or at least they know someone close to them that can do it. Failing that, make a trip of it and come to Leeds (half serious), i travelled from Leeds to Elie before so i can appreciate its not the shortest of journeys but its not too bad.

It's more like they don't know how to do it. The 2.0 crafter is not a problem to activate but the 06-10 2.5 requires the dealer to contact VW to get an activation code and then be connected to the server in Germany and a lot the dealers are unaware of this, unfortunately they ( and a small number of independant VW specialists) are the only ones that have the software that's required to do it.
