I am currently the owner of a 1990 1.8e b3 Audi 80 and I have a mad idea on turning the car into a little bit of a beast, for ages I couldn't decide on what engine to put in the car I got the 1.8e for 180 quid! wasn't many 80's around at the time and was really looking for the 2.0 16v but hey! I picked this baby up and its pretty decent however I want to take it off the road and just work on it and make it perfect, I know I will get a lot of 'don't bother too much work mate' but I'm willing to put in the work, I know the b4s had a 4.2 v8 model unless I am wrong but I don't know if there was a b3 and if there is they are incredibly hard to find, I guess you can tell what I want to put under the bonnet. Loads of people have said yeah just put a 1.8t in it easy power and its quick but I don't want that I want something that sounds mean and puts out a lot of power and something that you don't see everyday however the 4.2 v8 is usually a Quattro and obviously my car is not so the underneath of the car is going to be completely different, the engine in now is longitudinal of course but I have no idea how much I would have to cut up underneath to make a Quattro system fit, I heard somewhere that FWD and AWD b4s are the same underneath no idea if that is true or whether it would be the same on a b3 plus finding anything to do with Audi 80 projects is pretty hard as its always in like Poland and other countries and there's not a lot of threads and posts about them anyone ever done anything like this? I've seen on YouTube some v8 b3s but no idea if they were standard or whether they've put it in there! sorry about the long thread but I'm sure ill be on here a lot in the future!

but of course, anything is possible. personally i would go for an s4 v6 bi turbo lump, ok its not a v8 but its easy power, lots of it, and low down grunt, and because they dont break you can find them used for cheap.

ill just reply to your one post yeah I was thinking about just finding a Quattro b3 and be done with it but I think being stubborn I just want to do it like this but I guess it'd be a good learning curve and very fun to do the 2.6 v6 out of the cabriolet was an option too the s4 sounds interesting! the project wont really start till about august need to find another daily first lol although think I might have my eye on a 6n2 gti cheers for the reply

ahh right I wasn't really sure, think I saw an old school video of the body being galvanised and then them saying something about the v8 but it had like swish wood interior so didn't know really what it was or whether it was an American variant!
