Hi! I've got the same issue, and my car is in 1000 pieces in the backyard right now=P
I have searched all of the known forums for this and couldn't get a straight forward answer.
The xenon lights work both hi/low, indicators works fine, but no LED DRL's, and the halogen hi beam is not working, but I don't see a wire from the orginal harness going in to the headlight connector. So i might need to wire that one up.

Does anyone got a step-by-step guide for this retrofit?

    Thank you

    Here we go svj1.

After alot of trial and error, and some soldering to the J519 unit (which did nothing at all). I have done almost every "tutorial" there is on the web.
And now I finally got working LED DRL's and bi-xenon.

The only thing missing is the dimming of the LED's when using the indicators. But that may be some VCDS coding, I'll have a look on that later on.

The LED's now dim when i switch to "Night mode" on the light switch from 0 or "auto" to parking lights or xenon, and it also dim when using the fog lights, so that is in perfect working order.
I haven't yet bothered to look at the halogen H7 high beam connector yet, as i was getting quite sick of having a non working vehicle in the backyard.
I just threw it back together to have a car while i research this.

If someone has information regarding this it will be much appriciated

So, here is what you need to do:
If all you got are the parts in the first picture, you need to order some small additional parts.
You need a "green ring" to hold the D3s bulb in position inside the light housing, I ordered this on ebay and got it a few days later,
but i got told by a friend that works in a car body repair shop that they usally got some spares after a repair on a D3s vehicle.

    d3s.JPG
And you need the wire from the ballast to the D3s bulb, it is possible that the old one fits, but i wasn't sure on this, so i bought a new one just to be safe.

Now to the actual mounting of the headlights:

    1. Remove the old and connect the new ones.

    2. You need to have access to a VCDS (Vag-Com) system in order to give the correct code to the J519 Unit(4F0 907 279 K).
Open vcds and navigate to module 9 (Cent. electric) and press coding,
if you had bulb DRL's with xenon and washers the 4'th number from the left should be "4" i.e xxx4xxx, change this to what ever suits you new headlight, my code became 0115122

    3. Now comes the tricky part: On the J591 there is 3 connectors, one called T10a(10 pins), another called T12b(12pins) and last T32C(32pins).
Disconnect them in the following order: T32C, T12B and T10A. I tried to disconnect them in a different order and the headlight washer went crazy.

You will see pin numbers inside the J519 unit on the T10a connector, and there is marking on the connector side for the T32c
    For the passenger side:
Mark and cut the following wires:
    T10a - Pin 1 (Red and yellow)
    T10a - Pin 2 (Blue and green)
    T32c - Pin 15 (Red and black)

Take the T10a - Pin 1 (the one with the connector end) and solder it to the T32c Pin 15 wire (headlight end)
Take the T10a - Pin 2 (the one with the connector end) and solder it to the T10a - Pin 1 wire (headlight end)
The remaining T32c stub from the J519 should just be wrapped in electrical tape and tucked away, this will not be in use.

    The driver side:
Mark and cut the following wires:
    T10a - Pin 6 (Gray and white)
    T10a - Pin 8 (Black and white)
    T32c - Pin 4 (Red and black)

Take the T10a - Pin 6 (the one with the connector end) and solder it to the T32c Pin 4 wire (headlight end)
Take the T10a - Pin 8 (the one with the connector end) and solder it to the T10a Pin 6 wire (headlight end)
The remaining T32c stub from the J519 should just be wrapped in electrical tape and tucked away, this will not be in use.

    And that's about it.
It worked for me, but Do this on your own risk.
    I got a 2007 A6 2.0Tdi S-Line

And i forgot to mention, i already got the 4F0 907 279 K unit so i did not replace that one, you might get a protection lock on it if you use the new one, but this can any Audi dealer unlock for you.
I think it's only the interior light that don't work when the protection lock enables.

If there is something else i can help you with, just let me know!
