    Hi All,

I am about to place an order for a 2.0l S-Tronic diesel saloon, but I am undecided whether to go for the A6 or A4. They work out more or less a similar cost on the leasing company website my company uses. Any thoughts would be welcomed.

All depends what you really want...the A4 is a brand new model with new technology.

The A6 has slightly dated tech in comparison but the MY17 isn't far off (I don't think)

The A6 is a bigger and more spacious car...

For me having had an A4 in the past - I loved it, the wife currently has the A6 (went in for an A4 but the deal on 6 was phenomenal)

Driving and sitting in the 6 was on a different level and personal preference would be the A6 as long as you know and don't mind the tech being slightly older

Depends on how big you like them , a space cruiser A6 can't be fun in multi storey , some car parks , etc .

Not much difference in size. The A6 is about 20cm longer and 3 cm wider. Cabin is almost as big. We have an A4 diesel s tronic avant on loan at the moment and it is very comfortable, quiet and pretty quick. Holds the road very well without the body roll of the A6.
When I changed car in 2014, the A4 didn't come close but if I was changing at the moment it would definitely be in contention but as Nemo says, the discounts on the A6 are incredible.
You would be best to drive them both. You don't say what spec you are going for. If it is an s line, the A6 is much better equipped as standard with LED lights and heated memory seats.

I had an A4, nice car but way to small for me, changed to an A6 BE and could not be happier, all depends what you want but the A6 is a monster.

Which A4 did you have? The B9 is recently out and bigger than the B8.

With my budget, I could get the A4 S-line and A6 SE Executive. I would add the tech pack advanced in the A6 and similar bits and pieces to the A4 plus heated seats back, front and steering wheel. Ultimately on my budget I would land up with similar options, with the major difference being the virtual cockpit in the A4. The driver assistance safety features (ACC, blind spot etc) are important to me as I do lots of mileage.

Virtual cockpit is very nice. Agree on the driver assistance if you are doing the miles, makes journeys much more relaxing. We do a lot of long journeys and find the A6 with the tech pack is very easy to clock up big miles.
Can you get a test for a day in each? We always take the cars for a couple of days to make sure it's the right one but not all dealers are so accommodating.

Personally, if I was doing "lots of mileage", unless most of it was on minor roads, it would be the bigger car every time - no substitute for space:comfort:relaxation.

I probably do around 3000-4000 miles a month on a mixture of motorway, A roads with a smaller amount of B roads.
