    Hello,

I recently bought an Audi a4 1.9 TDI avant estate 2002 (02 plate). 117k miles, It drives perfect, however I noticed that when you turn the ignition. The engine management light doesn't appear. All I see is the usual battery and other lights/coil light etc.

Is this normal and should I be worried? I do not have the owner's manual unfortunately, is there anywhere that can show/tell me exactly what lights should appear when the ignition is turned.

    Thanks, Chris

This is the lights that show, I can see that the engine management light is top left I think, but as you can see here it doesn't light up when I turn the key.

Edit: just realised the coil light isn't shown here, must have took the pic too late

as above, it shoudl come on, looks like an engine. chances are if you pull the dash you will find its been taped over so you cant see it and there is a fault that needs fixing to put it out.

Thanks for the help. I will take it on Monday, my mechanic said that if it's a problem with the bulb or a fuse gone then it may not read it anyway if put on the machine. But I will take it anyway and see what happens. It's under 3 month warranty so that should cover whatever the reason it is for it not lighting up.

Hi again. Ok so I got it hooked up to a machine, and it's all fine, reads fine no fault codes at all. The only thing I can find is this video. It#s the same year/model as my car and his light doesn't show up either. Check the video. Is it possible that it just doesn't show up unless their is a fault?

MOT test now requires EML/MIL to illuminate or it’s an automatic fail. Ensure you check this when buying a car!
