One thing I never thought of though

it says if you visit a petrol forecourt when a tanker is there refuelling drive by and don't go back for a few hours

as all the sediment that has sunk to the bottom of the tanks will be stir up when the tanker fuel is put in the tanks

Neither worked for me, but google came up trumps.

FWIW I nearly always stump up the extra for the premium fuel over standard. Once took my old A3 in to have work done and the mechanic asked if I'd been using premium fuel because it was in such good order. Since then I've tried to use premium when I have the choice.

Most of the time I use the train for work, so the car is for pleasure, I think it's worth taking care of it inside and out.

I must say I've never used supermarket fuels for years myth or not

i had a friend years ago who owned his own forecourt and told me a few story of supermarket fuels

mind this was 20 years ago so things have changed a lot since but one thing he did point out is matainace at supermarket forcourts
i.e. Cleaning of filters etc

ive used shell fuels for years although I don't use the more exspensive stuff for the extra 1p per litre I'd rather use shell or a branded forecourt

To be truthful I've been thinking about it for years

5th gear did a test on a Dyno not sure if any one see it?

They disconnected the fuel tank and used a fuel can connected to the car

The test was supermarket grade
Branded grade think it was esso grade 95 Ron
Then premium grade 97 Ron

To see if there was better BHP and more MPG
There was a little difference but not huge and enough really to call it
But places like shell bp etc have much better cleaning property

I really thought it would cost so much more per year say using shell v power but there saying over a year it's £100 more

But £8.34 a month is nothing really

On paper surly a higher Ron must run better and give better power?

Nope...

Used to use Premium Unleaded and VPower on the S5 - not really sure it made any difference so the Q gets joust bog standard from anywhere Diesel - maybe that's why it's starting to sound like a diesel at a low rev when taking off

If it was a huge difference I'd do the same Nemo
but my local shell because one is few hundred yards from Asda and the other shell is across the road from Sainsbury's shell charge 1 pence per litre more so it's. No brainier for me but def thinking about the v power diesel

You know what, I'll give it a go...

Not on this tank tho as I have a Sainsbury's 8p off a litre to use so after that I'll move to shell vpower for 3 tanks? And carry out the science experiment for you all....

I did some research on it a few years ago. I think for Diesel v power it's really a cleaning agent which keeps it in better order so probably more of a keeping performance as per new rather than boosting it.

I've typically used v power for 1 in 3 or 4 fills.
