Hey all,
Looking for some MK5 1.6 Fsi help.... couldn't find anything on the search.
My missus has a 2004 1.6 Fsi (BAG - Engine) has had it only for a few months, was working fine up until the other day when she came back from an outing and parked up in the drive. A few hours later went back out jumped in the car and wouldn't start.
The engine turns over ok, can hear the fuel pump fire up then it sounds like it keeps priming up; doesn't stop.
Got the RAC man out to have a look and diagnosed the tank pump as faulty. The ignition circuit was found working ok. He also found some 57 fault codes stored on the ecu. there was a lot of random stuff on there from 4 wheel drive sensors to heated seat sensors, none of which jumped out as a potential problem until we came across- fuel pump relay low resistance. Sorry no copy of the fault codes. The codes were cleared off in prep for me fitting a new pump. New pump fitted and no change, still no start.
On further investigation looks like we have a bit of DIY wiring in the engine fuse box, there is a rouge relay installed across f26 to f42, essentially powered up from f42 into relay then out to other side of f42 and both sides f26. Pretty weird... Anyway if I unplug it the engine management light goes off on the dash.
The ignition relays and starter relay are all heard to operate and all fuses are good.
I'm getting fuel up to the high pressure fuel pump and when the engine is cranked there appears to be a good deal of pressure to the injectors, although injectors do not appear to be told to open.
I've had a mobile diagnostic unit come out and he couldn't even connect to the ecu with his okey cokey 5000 bosch reader.
Since then I've had it towed to a near-by specialist who has had the 57 odd fault codes com back and can find no reason why; he has basically told me he doesn't want to touch it now; don't blame him really!
Anyway anyone got any pointers for this? I'm planning to get the car back at the weekend, I have a spare ecu which is not coded to the car and a copy of vcds.
Thanks in advance
Andy.
