Have a problem with the electric folding mirrors on my car.
Parked the car and all was fine, but have come back and now only the passenger mirror is folding out when starting the car.
Is there any manual release to fold out the mirror?
I've tried to push it gently but it feels firm, so I don't want to force it.
Could it be a blown fuse or Do they work off the same fuse?

I'm a bit stuck as its not really safe to drive with no drivers side wing mirror!

No fuse as they're wired into the door controller, they do tend to stick quite a bit.

You can push it out, not the first time I've had to do mine on the A3.

    Thanks Chris.

So is there a special trick? like pushing when they are supposed to be folding out?
Or just a case of forcing the mirror?
Can I do any damage if the mirror is forced?

Mine sticks sometimes, but folds out properly if I use the button to fold in and back out again. But it has only every stuck half way and not refused to move at all.

Thanks robes401, first time it's ever happened.
I've tried retracting the mirrors using the switch to fold/unfold them numerous times. But no luck.
Also tried shutting off car completely and turning on again.
Looks like I've no option but to force the mirror open.

Managed to open it manually just by pushing it. There were no sounds of the motor whirring on the drivers side mirror, even before opening it manually. So I'd assume the motor has gone.
Can this be replaced on its own or does the whole housing have to be replaced. Which I guess would cost ££££££££!

The whole mirror base needs replaced, the ones for my A4 are ~£180 a side.

Apologies for the hijack, but does anyone know if you can override the "in motion" disabler with VCDS? I found out that this was built into my A4 B7, wasting £130 or so but I'd reconsider adding it in future or even retrofitting to my current car if the mirrors could be made to fold in and back out when moving. Probably a type approval thing as it was really handy with previous VW group cars.

Does manually forcing a stuck mirror damage the folding motor? And would it be a straightforward retrofit?

Don't think it's possible. Haven't seen any setting.

I always found these to be a bit flawed. When they fold the mirrors turn up so acts like a bucket and collects water. On my last a6 the mirror was already juddering and folding smoothly when I got rid of it at 10 months old.
