Hi i have the car above ive got a gearbox issue and have concluded that i need a replacement. Ive got quotes for a rebuild for about 2300.00 + vat. I was first told that i cannot use a secondhand gearbox on my car. Ive consulted with a few mechanics qho jave stated that i can use a secondhand gearbox but the maltronics needs to be complete with gearbox . Can anyone confirm this for me as ive found a secondhand gearbox for 500.00 from a 2007 audi a6 with 73k on it. Also just wondering is it possible to fit a 7 speed auto to my car?

    Thanks

Whats the issue with the car? The 3.0 TDI never came with a 7 speed auto in the 4F so you'd be best getting a like for like replacement.

Well originally i got the car scanned and the fault code was a P0783 which indicated 3-4 shift fault also could be either low oil or faulty solenoid. I deove the car to other mechanics to get second opinions. Some stated that clutch could be gone and a rebuild is needed. My wife drove car up the road she slowed down in traffic and when pushing the accelerator the car just revved she pulled over tried to reverse but car dows not move just revs. It goes into all the gears no dash lights are on but car just wont move. Taken to mechanic tried to top up oil but oil is in box. Now im contemplating between a rebuild for 2300.00 + vat or a secondhand box fitted for 900.00.. need advice as to what best option would be. If i get rebuilt comes with warranty and faults labour and parts covered. If i get secondhand could end up coffing up more labour money. But then again gearbox could be nice and no more issues

before spending ££££ just get the gearbox serviced, if it does not fix the fault then your only a couple of hundred of pound out of pocket. Also you should fit the same gearbox code that you already have fitted to the car.

Please be a little patient, I still waiting for the replacement oil's item number I will try again to reach my Audi service contact on Monday.

As a remark for this topic: The shifting 3-4 is a common problem with the A6/2005/3.0/Tiptronic gearbox. In this case the gearbox oil should be replaced including the gearbox software, and this will eliminate the problem. The only painful thing is the price, therefore I wait for the factory item number of the replacement oil, maybe somebody will find a cheaper alternative.

Also when the pan is off there is an internal bolt tightening sequence that should be followed, which also should make shifts more seamless, search the forum or PM me and I can forward the diagram to you

Well of course, I just wished to say, I didn't forget to ask for the oil's details, as it was asked in the other topic, but as I wasn't received this information yet
