    Hi

Haven't been on the forum for a while but was hoping someone may be able to assist with a few queries regarding front suspension components.

I need to replace the front subframe mounts and also I'm looking at the front suspension arms at the same time.

Audi are quoting approx. £36 each for the 4 subframe mounts - however, I can get FEBI BILSTEIN mounts for £12 each (fronts) and £15 each (rear) - does anyone have any experience of these - £142 for the Audi items (I'm assuming probably Lemforder who do a lot of the suspension components for VAG group) as opposed to £54 for the Febi Bilsteins.

Audi part numbers 4F0399515C (front subframe bush x2) and 4F0399419E (rear subframe bush x 2)

I'm also looking at the front suspension arm kits - you can pick them up for under £200 on ebay ; however, the genuine Audi 4F0498998 kit is nearly £1400 (yikes). Does anyone on here have any real world experience of using the cheaper kits.

    Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

Why not just get the lemforder parts, as they are the same that Audi supply with the part number ground off. Use Lemforder webcat WebCat 3

I would avoid like the plague the £200 ebay arms they won't last 5 minutes before you will have to replace them.

I replaced all the arms & bushes front/rear on my A6 last year and used all lemforder parts, and replaced the shocks & springs with Eibach Pro B12 kit

Why do you think you need to replace these parts, MOT advisories?

Depends on your funds but a arm is only going to be as good as the quality of the bush that's in it....it's a shame that poly bush kits aren't widely available for our cars (although on an S-line it would probably be bone shaking)

I has one of those £19 arms fitted 3yrs ago and it's still going strong with no play....so am guessing luck of the draw?

Thanks for the replies - the car has 187k miles on the clock and I renewed the suspension last year with the Bilstein B12 kit as the original kit was way past its best. The subframe mounts are pretty split and generally knackered on the front subframe.

Regarding the arms I think I'll take a view on them once I've sorted out the subframe mounts - there is some play/splitting of the upper arms bushes but they are not knocking or anything. I noticed it while I was renewing the brake discs due to some bad vibration when braking from 40 - 30 mph (which was caused by the disc as it moved when I swapped it to the other side).

Renewed the Subframe bushes at the front. The 2 located under the engine were shot to pieces. Rear 2 on front Subframe were also pretty poor. Also renewed RHS engine mount as access was good and it was leaking. Didn't bother with arms in the end as checked them all thoroughly with wheels off and although some are showing signs of ageing there is no excessive play. Had full 4wheel alignment afterwards and have to say it feels so much 'tighter'. Went with Febi Subframe mounts in the end as the cost was £50 for all 4. The front Subframe mounts almost seemed to have suffered from water ingress. Also lots of dissimilar metal corrosion present between bushing housing and subframe mount.

Thanks, did you find the RHS engine mount from aftermarket or from Audi?

Engine mount was 2nd hand off ebay. Cost about £20. A brand new one is over £150 from Audi. There is no oem equivalent for the 3.0tdi engine unfortunately. Febi do make them for other models though (eg 2.0tdi).
