Lowering my Beetle

Hi all.

I've been thinking of lowering my Beetle. It's a 2000 and a 2.0l.

Could anyone give me some advice in what is best to buy? Make, type etc.

I've been looking at some and AP seem to do some but they lower the front by 40mm and the rear 30mm. I'm not up on why this is. Is it for looks or performance.

What I'd like to to basically get my car looking just the same as a Beetle with OEM sports suspension. I'm not sure how much OEM sports suspension lowers the car by. Basically I don't want it to look pimped, or a street racer. Just more squat as I'm looking at buying some 17" or 18" wheels later on.

Any advice would be great. I;m in the Midlands (Staffs) so if anyone knows where I can get such things fitted that would be great.

...oh and I'm on a budget too so coilovers or just springs are an option, but I'm not bothered about having adjustments or doing track days... I'm mostly a tootler but I like to hug corners when I can.

Another thing I'd like to know about is altough lowered suspension looks great, I'd like the handling to be tightened up somewhat too and I have read that the Sway bars are the thing to do for this. Is this correct?
