    Hi,

I have a display problem and I wonder if anyone can advise.

The image on my windscreen (isn't that a quaint term) shows the required information but the general area of the display is obscured. The only way I can describe the appearance is like moisture under a sheet of clear film...lots of white droplets, perhaps?

If I look down through the screen, the 'data' image in the projector is crystal clear. Looking further forward into the black hole on the top of the dash, however, the white marks are visible....looks like another reflection but it's difficult to know just what is where coz it's like the mini hall of mirrors.

    Can anyone advise, please?

I had exactly the same symptoms.
The car is under warranty and they replaced the whole HUD
They also broke the special windscreen removing it as you have to remove the screen to get to the HUD
We are not the first to have this problem and certainly will not be the last.

I have exactly the same problem. I have it booked in at Audi on the 1st April for a software update. They cant be sure if it will fix the problem but said it was worth a try. I would hate to think how much it will cost to fix. Car is out of warranty.

I have the same issue, checked a price for a new unit with Audi who wanted £2,300 without fitting. Instead I have just purchased one from a breaker for £400, I'm just waiting to get it fitted as the windscreen needs to be removed.

Good move Goodeone. Let me know if and when you get it fitted. I would also be interested to know who did the fit for you. I amsure it will need to be coded as does many other items. I am still waiting for audi to give me a price and whether Audi will pay a contribution.

I've got a window fitter booked and I intend to fit it myself, I've had a look and it's four bolts and a wiring plug should take all of 5 mins. I'm hoping it's just going to work as it's been fitted to a previous vehicle. The windscreen guy told me the job sheet for fitting a windscreen with head up display involves having the head up display re calibrated to the new windscreen and all 4 wheels aligned. I can't see autoglass or any of the other big company's bothering to do this, can you?

When Audi fitted the new HUD and screen to my car I recall the service man saying the recalibration is straightforward and quick. Obviously not being that interested in the how it was done I have no idea what it involved but the fact it was a new windscreen as well seemed to be the reason why recalibration was needed. I am fairly certain they did not realign my wheels as the dealership did not fit tyres themselves at that time. They got screen specialists in as well to remove and fit the screen.

Having had one for 6 months and the warranty replacement for 3 months of that I would say that they are more trouble than they're worth. And I don't feel any "safer" using it. I won't be paying extra for one in the future.

Hopefully as it's the same screen going back in it won't need recalibration. Just pray the screen fitter doesn't break it on removal.

I'm just one of those people that if something is fitted to a car it has to work, if I was buying a car I would be fine with an item not being fitted but would have a problem with it not working. Just to fussy I guess.
