I've got a mmi 3g multimedia disc/ sd reader that is faulty, will not suck the disc in, vcds says cd mechanism will not initialise, so I got a second hand unit and fitted it, I now get component protection working.

Contacted 2 Audi dealers (Truro and Plymouth) and both are pretty unhelpful saying they can't remove the cp, any ideas anyone?

Crap, they can remove component protection from the unit. Ideally a new unit would have some PR code (?) that they can type in to their system but I've never came across a dealership that couldn't remove CP, provided the replacement unit hasn't been reported as stolen or defective.

Could you not swap over the drive mechanicals to repair your existing unit.... it probably is better just to replace the whole unit.

I think someone has had a go at repairing it previously, the soldering on the ribbon cable motherboard end is apalling!

Well, finally got component protection removed, found a VAG specialist in Redruth called AVS, they have all the VAG group software and fixed it in an hour.

I would thoroughly recommend these guys to anyone in Cornwall who needs software coding (or anything else) where Audi won't oblige.
