Hi guys newby on here usually roam around Volkszone

I have a 96 Golf 3 TDI and I have a preoblem with the 4 speed air fan. It only seems to work on setting 2 and 4. Is this an easy fault to cure or is a total switch replacement needed and if so is it easy to change??

    Cheers Guys and Gals

It might be the fan resistor in the dash. Had a similar problem on an Audi 80 I had where the fan only functioned on the max setting. Turned out the fan resistor had packed up - was easy to fix - A mechanic friend of mine removed the fan control unit and soldered in a new resistor (took about an hour in total) - He seemed to think it was a common problem on a lot of cars although your symptoms are slightly different so not 100% sure...
