    Hi guys
I've noticed my white a6 is covered in tar spots and iron spots.
Just wondering what you guys are using to remove these? I've used tar-x and iron-x before but I think these are a bit too aggressive to be used almost every wash and it's more likely wash off any protection I have on the car.
    Cheers

a clay bar is best to get rid of stuff stuck in the paint.. it will lift a surprising amount of muck and then enable you to polish it without getting swirls.

Gtechniq do a tar and bug remover which does not affect any Gtechniq coating - so it might be ok with other protective coatings too?

Clay bar will strip everything off. Don't have time to detail my cars like I used to now that I have a kid 😄
Might give the gtechnic stuff a try.
Ideally looking something that's sprays on and hoses off or wipes off. Just found a lot of them strips any protection off and water doesn't bead off like it used to.

I quite like Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover. It doesn’t seem to obliterate spots immediately (not very intensive) the way tar-x does so it’s gentle enough but does the job too. Sometimes need to go over some spots twice and if you have a spare spray bottle it would be better for applying it.

Not really addressing the OP's question (I'm always a bit frustrated by this too)...

A tip I learned somewhere which works well with the Autoglym stuff is to spray on rather than apply to a cloth. It means putting a spray head on the bottle but just seems to work far better and less product is wasted on the cloth.

Although Gtechniq have a cleaner which is supposed to work without affecting their sealants, it may well affect normal wax protection. Gtechniq sealants are a lot stronger bonded to the paint than a wax (personal experience having had my car treated 4-5 years ago).

Been looking for a good cleaner to decontaminate the car and I found what I think it's the best stuff out there.
Having a white car is always gonna be a pain. Shows up all the tar spots and iron spots.
Ive used iron x and tarx and these have been fine just a bit time consuming as you are washing and drying the car between uses.
Carpro has some thing called trix and this stuff is a combination of both tar x and iron x and it's actually cheaper than buying the 2 combined.
Used this stuff today all over the car and within minutes I could see it working. The iron deposits on the car started turning red and the tar was dripping off. It's very easy to use, spray on and leave a few minutes then use a microfibres or sponge to work it in and to help the more stubborn marks. After about an hour or so going through the whole car I would say 99% of the iron and tar spots have been removed and some of the more stubborn marks took another dose to get off. This stuff is brilliant on wheels as well.
I have to say this stuff is pretty powerful so a bit of care is needed. Just don't let it dry according to the bottle.
whe this was done I could feel that the body work was silky smooth. Normally I would have thought about claying the car but I didn't feel it was necessary and I didn't have much time left. This stuff smells really bad so avoid getting in yourself and clothes.
Next i used carpro hydro2. This stuff was amazing. Spray on and power wash off. This left the car with a very nice shine and the water beading off the car was brilliant. I had my doubts about this stuff but it's very good. The finish after drying was shiny and slick. Like I applied coats of wax or sealant.
Would recommend both for those who don't have time to detail their cars.
