It is a common fault. The actuator position sensor needs changing. Best done by a garage.

    Hi Guys,

Havent yet got the sensor due to time. Thaught id call up a local garage who is known for being good with VW's as soon as i told him the fault desciption and code he said it was the turbo and changeing other parts was pointless?? says his seen this many times and is the turbo?

Also wandering if anyone knew why the fault is intermitant, somtimes i can drive at all speeds and no fault, when it does appear its over 70mph but its random.

    Thanks

Apologies for reviving this thread but I wanted some advice on this too.

I drive a UK 2010 Passat 2.0 140bhp TDI DSG (B6 shape, CBAB engine) with 106k on the clock with BorgWarner KKK turbo. Recently, I started getting the same error on the dash (P2563 Boost Control Position Sensor) read via VCDS. The fault only appears sporadically when I am nearly stationary whilst changing the gear from D to R or R to D (ie I don't think the turbo is boosting at all). There is no effect on the car's performance (acceleration, MPG etc.).

Various threads I've read either point to split hoses or bad actuator diaphram.

Can anyone advise on my next steps to diagnose this problem? I have VCDS at home and I am ok with tinkering on the car myself but if it's a turbo-out job I will need to get professional help.

Also I can see the top of the boost sensor by the firewall, but does anyone know whether you can swap the sensor from the top on its own, or does the whole turbo need to come out? Any advice will be much appreciated!

Testing the actuator diaphragm - locate the vacuum port of the actuator, remove the hose and connect a hand vacuum pump. With the relief valve closed draw 10psi of vacuum and wait. After a minute or two if the vacuum has dropped then hole in diaphragm. Make sure vac connection is tight when this is done.

Thanks Mad Mitch. As this error only comes up when I change gear from D>R>D, wouldn't you say the pressure valve/actuator is not faulty, but more of a sensor/wiring faulty? Is there any easy checks I can do to check this?
