Can anyone tell me what the difference would be between a Comfort/Convenience Module 4B0962258D and a 4B0962258N ? Do they control the same basic things, alarm, windows, central locking whatever?

They will be programmed differently , In my car someone had swapped the heater control panel for some reason to the wrong one and it caused no air con and no heated rear window !!!!!, swapped it for the correct one and got both things working again

Thanks for the reply, I'm aware that there should be differences but I'm having difficulty getting a comfort module with the correct number (N) but at present I have no central locking, alarm or electric windows because of a faulty module that I have at present disconnected and I am quite willing to do without the fiddly extra bits if I could get these main items working again even with an older module, logic would suggest that these modules all do the same basic things and later ones had a few extra bells and whistles added to the programming.

I would get the coding from your module and try it with the new module and see what happens

There are loads on ebay if you tap in the part number. You'll need it paired to your car by someone with VAGCOM or the remotes won't work. Only takes 10 minutes. A local automotive key company or VAG specialist can do it for you.
