Hi, I have just purchased a Passat Bluemotion Estate. It's a one owner April 2013 model, 28k miles, full VW service history with loads of optional extras fitted. Lovely well maintained car.

It has an RNS 510 Head unit, DAB and all that good joy. I have yet to check the firmware version but assume it may need an update. Searching around I have read about having the original Maps CD/DVD.

So before I ask the seller if he has it,

Q1. Would the vehicle have been supplied with one from new.
Q2. Where is the best place to obtain the correct software to update it.
Q3. Should I get it done at my local VW dealership.

    ta

UPDATE: I emailed the supplying VW dealer who has supplied me with the FULL production line build spec...now that is good service

    Hi,

I just joined this forum and would like to help as much as I can. I am not sure if you found the answers to your questions; However, hold the setup button for about 10-15 seconds. Screen will present 3 hidden menus. AM, FM And Service Information. Press Service Information, and you will find what software and map software you have. It will also show you the model number of your RNS-510.

I recently purchased a used Passat B7 2011 2.0 TDI DSG (fully loaded). The RNS-510 came from the factory. In the owners manual case, the RNS-510 book was in there.

To update the RNS-510, use the following Link:

Volkswagen RNS 510 Firmware Download Repository | my-gti.com

    Use this as a guide:

Upgrading firmware and maps on VW RNS 510 SatNav | Notes from a Nerd

Use this to copy Maps to SD card:

No. Do not go to your dealership. They will charge a lot. Your choice though. The firmware is updated using CD/DVD (I can't remember) and Maps are updated via SD card.

    Sorry for the late reply.

    Hope it helps!

HI, I did update my unit but used an official VW issue DVD (sealed) to V13. I did not want to risk bricking the unit with an iffy download burn.

In fact I would go further and advise anyone to use the official, VW sealed, software.
