So been searching for a few days now and I am struggling to find the answer..

I want to retrofit a factory retractable Audi tow bar to my A6.. Spoke to a main dealer and they want £1850 which is totally unrealistic. I have seen the retractable tow bars available on Ebay for £250-300 which seems far more realistic.

Can anyone help me find the correct part numbers required?

An Ebay seller suggested the part number for the actual tow bar for an S Line with sports suspension was 4G0800491Q. Can't see to confirm this or find the part number for the control control module.

Any help would be greatly received.

    Thanks

    Dave.

I'd be very suspicious of the ebay kit. I simply cannot see how they can supply all the parts for that price. Remember you need to replace the rear crossmember and that in itself will be a chunky cost. The electrics alone for my kit cost around £200.

Thanks for the reply.. I am talking about a used item from Ebay.. My guess they are removed from crashed cars or cars from the used market who don't want them..

    Hi,

I had the Audi towbar system installed when buying a 10 month old car from them and noticed that after the towbar was fitted, the rear towing eye female threaded portion that's hidden under the square piece of plastic was no longer there. This doesn't help you directly but it's worth noting as has previously been mentioned that there appears to be more being done than just the towbar being fitted. A replacement/removal of crossmember makes my situation understandable now.

I bought my (previous) tow bar from PF Jones and fitted it myself, including the factory electrics kit. Fitting the tow bar is relatively easy, the electrics is considerably more difficult (I had to do it myself as my dealership refused to fit it). All in I did it for circa £350. You also need to get the car recoded to accept the tow bar modules.

Speak to PF Jones for the Westfalia parts which are OEM.

Yeah heard OEM was Westfalia but you can't seem to buy the same kit. They don't seem to make the retractable version that drops down by pulling a lever in the boot.

Perhaps I'm over thinking it and I'll just get a detachable version.

Don't think you'll get the cable pulled version. Didn't see one in any of my previous research - perhaps you should contact Westfalia directly to see if they can supply; but I'd expect that would be quite a big retrofit to add the cable release mechanism.

I fitted the removable one and it looked perfect. Could not spot it at all when removed.

Dave your location of 'South' doesn't really help, so example I'm in Somerset which is 'South' but you might be in Canterbury.

Reason I mention this is that I bought my C6 Saloon in 2012, it didn't have a towbar and I wanted one to fit a bike rack. At the time Bristol Audi quoted me £1100+VAT for the bar, I then went to these people:

Tow Bars Bristol Bath | Cycle Carriers Bristol Bath | Park Assist Installation Bristol Bath | Hands Free Phone Kits Bristol Bath

Not only did they fit me the retractable Westfalia, but also the 4 bike carrier and extended electrics and lighting board, all for £583!

When having it fitted they advised that they fitted them for Audi Bristol (which Bristol Audi later confirmed), so it seems that Audi were subcontracting the work and pocketing a nice little £800!

PS: mine retracts with an allen key and not a pull assembly that you'e mentioned

The genuine Audi tow bar is made by Bosal, not Westfalia. PF Jones are fully aware of this and really shouldn't still be peddling the Westfalia is OEM story anymore.

Yes they may well be this year, probably only because they couldn't hit the price point.

Am sure that will change, just not as often as 'OEM' tyres
