As the lengthy title asks, does anyone have any experience on the following:

    - Do Tuning boxes cause the car to flag to Audi they were being manipulated at one point? As I assume if the cars is in Audis hands the tuning box is not present. And does the TD1 code just get applied by Audi? If I service at my local friendly Audi specialist assume this is not connected to big brother (Audi)??

    - If it does can you clear error codes through VCDS?

    - Has anyone fitted such a box to a BITDI. Or even better have experience of both? Assume it does as asked but having read other comparisons (Golf GTD) the DTUK boxes appear to be smoother and the TDIs more savage? Is this right?

    - Can the gearbox cope with the extra torque? My 535d when mapped I believe was at its max (508 LB/FT)

From what I have found out : The TD1 stays in the system once it is flagged. It can be entered manually or by the server if the car is connected for updates. The garages can only get updates from the server now, they can't apply updates locally(software).
The tuning boxes don't flag a TD1 as long as they are removed before going to garage. There are a couple of guys on here who have them- jamiefc who no longer posts but you might manage to find his threads. Also the guy from DTUK had one on his biturbo A7 ( sure it was him)

I have the DTUK one in my A6 2015 BiTDI and to be honest I do not notice much difference compared to when it was in my A6 2013 2.0 177ps (I had sent the box back to DTUK to be reprogrammed for the new car).

I only put it in the BiTDI because I already had the box, but if I was buying it for the first time for it then I probably wouldn't bother.

That's an interesting point. A friend works in engine research at Ford and the BiTDi is beyond what they can push a diesel to safely (given certain budgets for components). His advice was don't mess about with it.

TBH, you don't really need to. Never thought I would hear myself say that.

I had a 535d before and with it mapped it was another beast, it was probably just north of the BITDI is std so guess it may be enough especially with Quattro introducing massive grip I didn't have before..

Yeah maybe that's Fords engine research "view" but I'm pretty confident Audi are not gambling that it can handle the power. I found a document some while back written by a couple of the engineers who designed the BiTdi and it has a bunch of significant engineering changes compared to the regular V6 3.0 Tdi. They significantly changed the cooling of the head - split water jacket and improved oil splash / spray and also stronger pistons.

Having said that the pistons are still aluminium which Audi say are good for up to 80Kw per litre... the BiTdi is not far short of that.

So I disagree that the BiTdi is beyond what a diesel can be pushed to safely BUT I do agree that trying to push it further without more engineering changes might not be a good idea.
And as you state... it really is pretty much all the power you need on the roads that we have with the traffic volumes we have. Any overtake where I thought "if I had more power I would have gone for that", well in reality I probably should not have even considered it 'cos there is too much traffic about.

Yeah, hybrid drive train and even that's questionable it could survive the torque???

Well from reading more reviews including a bit of translation from German reviews i will as I did with the 535d, live with it for 6 months and see where I'm at then.

Question, will the BITDI eat tyres? I'm currently not going for an maintenance inclusive package based on the fact the Ultra has not required anything so far. And the £24 a month may pay for one service by the time i return the car.

Wear isn't too bad on my car. I reckon I could get 30k from a set of Michelin PS3 but I swap over to winter wheels. Got 4 winters from my last set, probably about 20k as I do less miles in winter. Wear is pretty even but I do swap them round when I change wheels.
