They say it's the thought that counts and as I am in Scotland I guess I will need to be happy with that, cheers for the thought anyway and hope you get the car sorted, that will be the main thing

    Hi,

It seems an older thread but somehow it is related. Ive got a VW Sharan 7M 2.0TDI with BRT engine. This balancer module casting has a number on it. The module casting nr: 03G103537B V200.
My mechanic told me that it is a common issue and this balance shaft has to be replaced. I was browsing online and here on the forum but it seems to me that everyone offers only some exchange service?!
Is it possible to buy a new balance shaft and not a used one? All I found is "remanufactured". None of them new.

VAG do not commission new balance shafts separately to the balancer unit and therefore the only way to get a new one is to buy a balancer unit from VW and take it out of there which is pointless, hugely expensive at well over 1000 and probably still inferior to the re-engineering process carried out on the exchange shafts when done correctly. KMB Direct have been doing this the longest but others are springing up as more cars doing low to average miles per year encounter the same problem. It's now 14 years since the first 'affected' engines came out so there will be 1000's of VAG cars still out there with the issue not addressed. It only affects 2.0 litre engines with balancer units fitted between 2005 and 2009 and not all engine codes iirc. There is a mass of info on this if you search this forum.

Thanks although I think you both misunderstood me. I dont want "exchange" and I dont want "remanufactured". Both of you linked KMB and I already found them but they offer again used, remanufactured AND exchange service. They might be in business for long but since others sell the same genuine Volkswagen balance shaft 50 less I dont think their shaft would be a real deal. On Ebay others sell the same remanufactured unit for 134. I wanted a new unit and possibly not an exchange service.
The reason for that my cousin in Australia has the same 2.0TDI engine and he wants to change this shaft before it fails. It is not the most convenient way for him to send the shaft here to the UK.
I found one company called zedperformance who sell aftermarket BUT new balance shafts without exchanging anything.

I placed an order with them yesterday night and today morning they dispatched the new unit. It is very likely that I'll get it early next week. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks

The misunderstanding being you left out the reason why you were looking for a new part not a genuine re-engineered shaft which is still superior to the original design. Glad you found a suitable part but there is no guarantee that the aftermarket part would be the quality of the genuine. For an extra 125 you can buy a KMB or other shaft and still send it but it would take a while for the old shaft to get back to them and for you to receive the 125 surcharge refund. You also have to be careful that the cheaper shafts don't have inferior hexagonal inserts put in as I found out when my first replacement shaft failed after 39k. I was lucky that I only lost the turbo which was a 299 exchange cost and the engine suffered no other damage.
