Is park assist working? If it works I would ignore the error.
If it does not work then the module may be corrupt.
You can sometimes fix this by recoding the module to another value. Switch on ignition so that module is recognised as wrong coded, then recode back to correct coding. BUT be aware sometimes a module will refuse to accept its original code and then it is useless. Only play with code as last resort.

If you bought from VW main agent (think Arnold Clark is) then you should have the one year used VW warranty with it. So it's a problem for them to sort, not you. Don't tell them you know what's wrong and have had VCDS on it. Some service departments, to avoid doing anything, will get all uppety at that.

Hi Richard, it's a 60 day warranty on used cars for Arnold Clark. It's due a service in the next 4500 miles, which will be roughly January 2016 for me. I have quite a good relationship with the service department at my dealer. It's not a major issue at the moment, I rarely need sensors anyway, just an annoying niggle in the background.

Many thanks to everyone for their help.

You bought in September, it's only just December so write in recorded delivery telling them of this fault with a November dated letter so you can register your requirment to have this fault fixed under warranty. IMO, you've paid for it!

I’m finally getting around to fixing the issue with the parking sensors. I have decided just to buy a second hand module from fleabay. Question is, are their separate modules for front and rear? I located a module behind the drivers cubby under the headlight switch? I would imagine that it’s just a plug and play with a bit of coding with VCDS to get the distances etc, which isn’t an issue.

Bump - bought a module but didn’t work when replaced, got a no communication error. It was from a 06 passat and mine is a 2009. Unsure as what part would work? Current part is 3C919475. What should I look for on Ebay? Are there any alternatives? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a part that's same part number, then find out whether it's plug N play or needs coding in to the system. If you still have the 09 module it may work but needs to be coded in as long as its compatible with your ecu. You can only find out if you keep trying different methods, through trial and error. See if you can get a professional opinion from a VW specialist.

Hi diesel, yeah I still have the part in the picture. Still in the car in fact. So the part number is the 3C9...... number? As far as I know it’s just plug and play. I have seen a few threads on other VW forums saying that they can be flashed using an Xprog or Organe 5 programmer as it’s just an eeprom error after the battery went flat. I have asked a few local garages but to no avail. All the big dealers want silly money to replace the whole lot. Seeing these on eBay for £20 and a few grazed knuckles later, thought it might be a better option. I do have access to VCDS, don’t know if it can be reprogrammed through that?

I'm just giving you suggestions, I haven't dealt with the part itself and I'm not aware what the correct part number is. You should know if you have taken the part out and still have it. When I was recording my abs and parking brake module, prior to coding it, when the parts were fitted I too were getting no communication error. Vcds is capable of coding but I'm not sure what the method would be regarding coding your module. You could visit Ross tech forum or wiki and see if it gives a walk through on how to replace your module.
