Why wouldn't it overheat if the pump was u/s? that's what the pump does in a water cooled engine. If both pipes at the matrix are hot then its circulating but the matrix needs replacing

Does the engine get up to 90 and stay there?Just been reading about the same thing on a 2.0tdi.He has just tried a new pump still no coolant to matrix. It would overheat if the pump fails likewise if the rad blocks. Can you blow pressure into the tank and get coolant to come out of the supply pipe?He can.If so its free. Its now suggested that the tank cap isn't sealing so that's why no release when you undo it and explains why the pump cant get coolant up to the matrix. The only other suggestion is a blockage somewhere but that's hard to believe if the engine runs normally

Sounds like I have the same problem. 2001 1.9 TDi AJM engine

No heat inside, no overheating, pump impeller not free-wheelling nor in pieces. Flushed matrix, tested stat, removed upper hose flange... all clear.

Can these engines get blocked inside?
