Hi, my 2003 TT has the same problem. It is intermittent so I will live with it for a while and when it gets worse I will follow the guide and change the rechargable batteries.

Had the same problem with mine when it had been standing for a while whilst I had a leg injury. It is the back up battery for the car alarm which isn't holding the charge it gets whilst driving. The replacement is about £80 from dealer, but once I started to drive it again it went away and has been fine since. You can do it yourself if you are brave enough!!

Just had to replace the alarm siren on my A4 yesterday. Never had the four beeps and figured that the batteries were dead before I bought the car 18 months ago. The unit was completely knackered as the batteries had leaked. The alarm was sounding but with some strange effects. Don't leave it too long or you may not be able to repair.

As stated its the alarm battery backup, you need to replace the siren unit to cure.

If it was beeping and isn't anymore the batteries have likely leaked over the ciruit and kileld the unit.

You can replace the batteries but you need to get to them before they leak.

If anyone has replaced their beeping unit with a new one (~£70) and still has their beeping unit, please can you mail me on wiiillll@hotmail.com because I'd be interested in buying it for repair.

Beeping didn't go away so I followed the instructions posted on this site and changed the battery myself. It was a fairly simple operation and cost about £10 for the rechargable cells.

Much better than the £83 Audi charged me for a new unit (which incidentally is different from the original).

It is an easy job to replace the batteries. Take unit out and cut it in half with a small saw. Batteries can be found at Maplin for about 10 quid. Once replaced put some strong tape around the join.
