Sorry if this has already been asked.

I just bought a MK6 Golf tdi bluemotion dsg. Drove it from Birmingham to London (120miles) and got 42mpg! Checking HJ and other real life mpg results that is very low! I do not have a heavy right foot before anyone asks. Done a DPF regen after that bad mpg and I drove 40 miles up the M1 same sort of MPG never higher than 42. PS. I had a MK5 2.0 GT TDI DSG and got 50+MPG with ease on the same route!

    Any ideas guys?
    Thanks

What was your journey like? Stop/start or a steady cruise - and at what speed? Is it new/new to you, how was it treated before you owned it? Is it a low mileage car that hasn't been driven properly?

Try doing another run of 10-15 miles, using cruise control, if you can at 70mph - then do another run at 60mph.

I've found in my A3 (and a previous Golf) that anything about 75 will bring mpg down a fair bit.

If I drive my A3 at 67 mph, I will get about 56-58mpg - I usually drive at 73mph with cruise and get about 51mpg. Anything over 73, it dips....

Just went for a 30 minute drive up the M1. Cruise control on 70mph. 41mpg! Is there something wrong with the car?

I don't know for sure, but it's certainly not right - Has you done the basic checks: Oil, service, tyre pressures, etc?

Anyone else with a 1.6BM DSG Golf care to comment?

Take the car up a quiet street , keep the car in 2nd gear and boot it till your just under the red in the revs, holding it for say 100 yards or the exhaust clears.

Then reset computer, hopefully its on the window wiper stick, usually holding the button for 2 to 3 seconds resets it.

Then take the car on the motorway and stick at 60 mph with cruise control.

Then tell us the results. You will need to decoke the exhaust once a month, bypassing the regen exhaust requirement.

Diesels are quite basic in their needs, a clean fuel filter and air filter every 20,000 miles will keep it running tip top. I replace my fuel filter every 20,000 also for cold winters and the water trap in filters nowadays are usually blocked off, meaning the diesel will freeze in the winter.

You also don't mention the mileage of your car, my A6 didn't open up until 45,000 miles and this improves fuel economy. At 60 mph on motorway and flat, I can get 72 mpg. Usually at 70 mph I get 50 to 60 mpg. Driving round town will get me 46mpg once its warmed up.

In cold weather diesels will return lower mpg

He mentioned the mileage as 50k - hasani007 - add a signature to your posts including the mileage as it'll help us know about your car
