    2002 Passat 130 PD TDI Estate. 160k mls. Mysterious heavy bump/thump from rear when travelling over uneven ground. Sounds like the spare wheel is loose and jumps up and down when going over a bump or on rough ground.
    I've checked the Silencer is OK; spare wheel, well secured; back seat not loose; suspension components look OK and nothing lying loose in the rear. Handling is fine at motorway speeds and corners OK. A mystery. Any ideas? Redser

    worn bush, worn damper. things might look ok but how can you tell if a damper is knocking. sounds like it could get dangerous though, so best you get it checked.
    Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...
