    Hi guys,

ive been reading around regarding the interval the Audi A4 belt should be changed and any official word from Audi

most at people are saying 75k or 5 years whichever arrives first

as I've just purchased our car it's something I really wanted to check so had a look at the service book

there is no mark against it being done after 34440 miles and it's a September 2009 registered car

as it's passed the 5 years I asked the dealership whether it should have been done on its full service last week before I got the motor, I was advised that 'the car would have been done, if it was needing it done'

can anyone advise if this is correct or can you recommend that this should be done soon under Audi's own recommendations?

The car has been serviced from Audi from new at every interval

I cannot speak with any authority but am pretty sure that 70k miles or five years is the safe
    change period/mileage.
You don't say what mileage yours has reached, but clearly it should now be done.

All 2009 A4 B8 chassis cars should have their timing belts done at the 75k mile mark, give or take a k or two. It's much cheaper to change the timing belt than it is to change an engine after a belt failure!

The garage are trying to avoid the cost of changing it if you ask me, I'd keep annyoying then until they do it if I were you, as the car should not have been sold without it done.

    Best of luck with it!

Sorry I should have said in my first reply that the 75k mile mark or 5 years. It is very very rare to get a 09 A4 with that kind of low mileage on it (unless it's petrol?)

Even if the car has had little use, a rubber belt living outside for 5 years will be degraded in one form or another. If it were me I'd get it done to be safe but it's ultimately your choice. Maybe bring it to an independent mechanic/garage and get them to have a look to get an unbiased opinion.

Most of the guys on this site say 60k or 4 years for a timing belt and pump replacement

Ok I'll get back in touch with the dealership and have them tell me their recommendation and take it from there

I have to agree with what has been said, in regards to the belt being changed by the dealer prior to being sold.

If Audi specify a time or distance, then there should be no if's, but's or maybes.
I would ask to see the service log they have on file,as should be recorded I imagine.

The Discovery I just sold had timing belts changed in April. Supposed to be done at 7yrs or 105k miles. Whichever comes 1st.
I only had 53k on mine since it was new.

If not purchased from franchise, not sure how you'd check on work being carried out.

I was told by Audi last week that they no longer specify a mileage. It's just every 5years now. Whether you'd actually want to wait 5years if you're doing Mega mileage is a different matter though...

That is interesting. I think that I shall stick to about 75k or five years for peace of mind!
