    Hi everyone,

Recently bought a 2008 A6 Avant Le Mans 3.0TDI Tiptronic from an independant dealer.
The ride on the drive home was firm but not overly so.
I checked the tyre pressures the next morning and they were 26psi all round!!!
I pumped them up to 44psi front and 38psi rear, then drove it.
If I were to run over a penny I could tell if it was heads or tails the ride is so hard.
The tyres are 235/35/19 Continentals with about 5mm of tread left, evenly worn.

Do you all run at these pressures or is there a reduced pressure you can run at without compromising tyre life?

    Cheers
    Pat

The recommended tyre pressures should be on the inside of the fuel filler flap or in the manual.

Edit: Double check that tyre size too, OE size for 19s is, IIRC, 255/35/19

If you're car doesn't have the sticker you can order a replacement from your Audi main dealer, these will differ from car to car (I think they are about £4).

It is common practice for 3rd party garages to reduce pressures in tyres of cars that are known for their hard rides.

Before buying my SE in 2012 I did several internet searches on the various models and knew that the S-line/LeMans were noted for their harder ride, I test drove one (main dealer) and then decided to go for the SE

Apologies the tyres are 255/35/19. Thank you for your wisdom.
44 front and 38 rear are what is advised inside the fuel filler flap.
I expect I will get used to it, but the bill to replace all my fillings
    is going to be enormous.

40psi all round is the rule of thumb laden or unladen, my 3L quattro has been running on the same tyres for 42 months at 40psi, all even wear and over 34,000 miles.

If you come to buy new tyres give Kinforest tyres a go, Chinese high performance tyres all Continental tooling for production, they were previously in partnership with Continental and are now independent manufacturers, can't recommend them highly enough and at around £200 a set of four what a bargain !

No problems glad to help, being a convert from Volvo and then seeing how Audi also charge like The Light Brigade every penny is a prisoner.

The ride is 'firm' isn't it.
I'm planning on getting some winter tyres, so I'll probably buy a 17" wheel/tyre package from mytyres.co.uk - I can get a set of 17" wheels and tyres for the same price as 19" tyres only. Then in the spring I'll probably buy another set of wheels & tyres.
