partly because their is no other trade quite as complicated as the motor trade when it comes to diagnosing what is wrong, apart from maybe the computer trade or the health trade. luckilywe get free health care via our wonderful NHS. now, you go to a doctor with a pain or ailment.he prescribes some pills, which you take but they don't cure it , so he prescribes some other pills, which don't work, so he refers you to a specialist who prescribes some more pills, then onto an operation, x rays, scans etc,, see where i am going, only you don't pay for it, but you do, through your nh contributions and tax. the pills need paying for, the doctor expects a pay packet at the end of the month, so there we go, thats one trade where you pay for incorrect diagnosis.

I wouldn't say the health service was a trade as such. If i paid for a procedure either through contributions, or privately which was misdiagnosed/treated I would be entitled for compensation.
ie you pay your private surgeon £3000 for a hip operation to skip the NHS queue. You wake up and are slapped with a £4000 bill instead because they had to use some fancy new equipment or parts. I have a good idea what i would say.

Often it is the only way. Take for example the HP fuel pump on a 3.2 V6 FSI 30v where there is no Audi test protocol for the pumps output pressure other than to go by the reading provided by the fuel rail mounted sensor, both are known for having a problem and you can't test one without knowing the other is good. Fitting either involves a major top end strip down involving taking off the same parts, so what other way would you suggest? That one example, I could think of thousands of others given time. It is why specialists try and keep a selection of certain known failure known to be good parts such as Air Mass Meters but there is a limit to what you can keep these days as VAG make so many different vehicles, it isn't just an air cooled bug now!
