    would appreciate some help please
AC needed regassing on my phaeton, lasted over a year before another regas, then 3 months and its blowing warm again
    my symptoms:

    1) AC stops blowing cold a few months after AC recharge
    2) When it was blowing cold most cold was through only one vent (the one to the left of the steering wheel), whilst it was getting weaker (blowing warmer) the one vent was blowing cold rest were all blowing warm
    3) Slight condensation settling in centre of windscreen, especially after rain
    4) Something rattly rolls across the inside dash on occasion when turning sharply!

    the codes:
01274 - Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71)
    defective or incorrect basic settings
    00445 - Loss of Refrigerant

I imagine the compressor has a leak
I phoned VW to ask how much a new one is they said £550 ish (a Sanden is the original or Delphi they said)
Euro Car Parts quoted £375 for a different make but said it will fit and gave the part number as 3D0 820 803T

i've got it booked into the local dealership but am worried about a ridiculous bill
There's a couple of mechanics I could use locally I suppose but its a very rare care with a very complicated AC system I hear.

Any advice as to what to do would be greatly appreciated. Especially on the part numbers and where to get a cheap compressor (if indeed that is the problem)
I've got the shareware version of VCDS so cant do complicated stuff
I've read about basic settings for HVAC and i've run that didnt help with the V71 motor code.

you need a mechanic with an aircon machine to vacuum test it to find the leak and go from there. pointless pricing up compressors until you know its that leaking. so, once thats sorted and the aircon is holding a charge, you need to fix the positioning flap. the aircon is a normal system just like any other car, and any competent air con specialist can do it.

    £447.11 including labour, ouch
spoke to Euro Car Parts, he looked at the diagram of how its made up and said the part in question is pneumatic so unlikely to fail unless the diaphragm inside has burst. he said theres a servo that commonly goes (only £27) so thats likely the cause
I think i shall give it to another mechanic to check it out before forking out the big bucks

just to give you guys an update. i sat on this for a few months. then i decided to give it an AC refill at VW and AC blowing cold again!
has been blowing cold for a few months now
the V71 flap motor is still an issue i think, when the car is stationary seems to blow cold well but when the car is moving it seems to get pretty warm in the cabin. this happens in automatic climate mode
if i change to manual mode and put the recirc button on its lovely and chilly again so no big deal.
i can live with that so i wont be taking the car apart and amounting a huge bill!
if it requires a gas recharge every now and then so be it
