What are the core differences in the 1.8T engines?

    The Audi TT has 225bhp.
    The Audi A4 1.8T has 150bhp.
    The Passat 1.8T has 150bhp.
The Skoda Octavia vRS has 180bhp

and it seems the Golf 1.8T is 150bhp as well.

    so whats different?

If im correct, all the below are the same:
    Golf 1.8T, 180 BHP
    Golf 1.8T, 150 BHP
    TT 1.8T, 180 BHP
    Passat 1.8T, 150 BHP
    vRS, 1.8T, 180 BHP

But the TT 1.8T 225 BHP is the same block with a bigger turbo and other changes.

yeh the 225 engine is mpi whereas (correct me if im wrong) the 210hp is EFi and the ones below are multi-rail?? or EFi... not sure... not even sure what im talking about, lol but the fuel injection systems are definitely different anyway.

I have often wondered this as well, what 'other' changes are there?? I can only guess but would have thought flywheel, camshaft, intercooler changes would make some difference but 65 horsepower is quite some difference on a 1.8T so surely some more major changes exist besides ecu limitations and bigger turbo...

I alway assumed the main difference would be stronger internals, ie strengthen crank/pistons/con-rods and bigger valves. Basically so the engine would remain durable with the extra power/bigger trubo

MPI/EFI is all injection really just marketing names.

The main difference you can get it Multi point IE injector per cylinder and Single point. one injector then a manifold. a bit like an electronic carburetor.

I would not expect to see any VW/AUDI 1.8T with single point injection

    no obviously not!

but the EFi system is surely a more crude design than the MPi used on the 225, and something tells me less effecient too... or have they just fooled me by changing the name of the very same fuel injection system???

are the engines / ecu's interchangeable - ie if you found an engine from a TT and the ECU, would they slot in with no wiring changes to a Passat 1.8 T?
