ok, discovered that the oil sender is on the sump.this displays the oil temp on the dash ok but still no sign of an oil light, can someone else with a 2.0 blue motion 140, confirm that whenthe ignition lights come on, an oil light/symbol appears on the dash and goes out when engine is started.

Thanks for that. When the ignition first comes on, does the oil light come on then. On mine the light doesnt light at all and was wondering if it was faulty . Only lights left on are the three you describe.

yes, oil light should come on with the ignition and go off once started, presuming there is good oil pressure. how long have you owned the car ?

Rather poor photo of dash but it's only there for less than a second.

thanks+for the photo. the oil light symbol isnt lit on your car dash either, the oil light symbol is just left off the red p symbol for the hand brake.

yes, that would be normal, but as far as I can see, the passat doesnt have an oil switch to put the light oil, it has an oil sump sensor.

thats the sensor to measure the oil level. look for a sensor on or around the oil filter housing.

I realise this thread is over 2 years old, but I recently purchased a 2014 Passat 2.0tdi and the oil light does not come on with the ignition.
Just wondering did you find the cause of the problem?
