Just been quoted £267.80 today for an oil change for my 62 A6 3.0 diesel quattro by Audi Main Dealer. Seems extortionate. Or is it? Grateful for any tips on reducing cost. Car still in 3 year warranty (but has extended warranty to 5 years).

Now saving my pennies to afford an oil change - what is the world coming to?

I know, a £30k+ car that's expensive to maintain, who'd have thought it(!)

But seriously, you're not forced to use the Dealer network and you are free hunt around for a decent indy. Get a few quotes and see if they're any cheaper.

Failing that grab a Pela and DIY

I was £190 for my oil and filter change at local dealer. Might be worth getting a quote from a local Indy and getting Audi to price match.

Unfortunately I am past doing my own oil changes - used to do ALL my own servicing but time moves on - that's partly why I find the price so silly.

Looked at Indie garage, but don't want hassle and/or excuses with Audi if things go wrong. My local Service Express will do it for £67 which seems a bit too good!

Need to try price match I think. But that's partly why I asked the question in the first place.

There shouldn't be any hassle or excuses, but I understand exactly what you mean.

I believe the oil capacity is ~8 litres. £67 probably covers the cost of the oil (if you and I were buying it off the shelf) and maybe a filter. I'd steer well clear of that place.

Just spoken to a very nice lady at a Volkswagen/Audi Independent specialist garage near my hom town. £149 including VAT with Audi parts and Long Life Oil. The savings pay for a 340 mile round trip! Will give Audi dealer one last chance.......

under block exemption you can get it serviced anywhere whilst ender warranty, in a vat registered garage and fit good parts, unless you extend the warranty, in which case i think you are now tied to audi...

Provide your own OEM oil and filter, you should be able to get these for around the £60, they can't refuse as far as I now if they are oem bits?

Am over 50 and I do my own oil changes on my C6, and courtesy of both ramps and a hole cut in the underbody shield can complete the change in less than 45 mins inc 30 mins drain time (I did 2 last month...one as a rinse phase and driven for 200 miles)

Unless any medical reason you can't do it yourself something to look at once out of warranty....since last time I looked I wasn't paid £200 per hour

One thing I have noticed on having an extractor tool is that I get out roughly half a litre less when doing this way Vs via the sump plug and prefer not to have half a litre of dirty oil contaminating my clean stuff
