    Hi folks

Picked up my 2007 A6 Avant last week so still figuring out everything in the car.

It has the AMI box in the glovebox with the CD Changer - I've seen lots of cables advertised which state they only suit 2009+ did they change the connector plug or something? I want to plug in an iPhone 6 for music. Car also has bluetooth installed but as far as I've read there is no A2DP for streaming. I'd prefer to keep the phone where I normally have it in a screen mount holder and see most of the cables are way too short to do that with. Any pointers appreciated!

Also on the sat nav - can you input postcodes? I have burnt the discs for update latest MMI software (and the 2015 Europe maps from excellent retrofit blog) but not tried the updates yet.

    Cheers

Cables I've used in mine are -

Music Interface AMI MMI 3.5 Jack Aux-IN MP3 Cable For Audi A3/A4/A5/A6/A8 Lead | eBay

AUDI VW Music Interface MDI MMI AMI to USB Cable Data Sync Charging Adapter | eBay

I've used the USB one with an iPod, USB drive and an android media player and all work.

Check the USB cables other listings, im sure there is an iPod one in there too

All the cables are short, and designed for the device to fit in the draw next to the AMI, so you would have to find aftermarket extension cables. And no A2DP on MMI 2G

Yes you can do post codes but a maximum on 5 digits. You enter the postcode in the (Town/ZIP) entry, then you would have to put the street address in.

So frustrating they even bothered to make satnavs without full postcode support!

Right so thinking for AMI I'll get an AMI-iPod 30 pin and buy a Bluetooth receiver like this LAYEN® i-DOCK Bluetooth 4.0 Music Receiver Adapter. With aptX for Superior Sound Quality! Stream Music Wirelessly from your Phone / Tablet / iPod / PC etc to Docking Station, Speakers, Stereo etc - Bose, Pure, Klipsch, Sony, JBL etc!: Amazon.co.uk: Hi-Fi & Speakers and see if it works, others seem to have had some success. I can test the cable independently with an old iPhone first.

Just to confirm - any VAG AMI cable will fit, they've not changed the connectors?

So I bought a AMI to 30 pin iPod lead from amazon - tried with iPhone 1G and iPod (can't recall how old but still works fine, scroll wheel one!) - AMI can't detect it and not charging either.

Ran my update to 5570 last night successfully, all three discs. Still no improvement to the AMI cable situation though, won't pick it up at all.

    Any ideas?

The end game is still to plug in a bluetooth receiver but if its not even supplying power to the iPod just now I'm not convinced that'll work...
