So you need to take the car to an Audi dealer and get Component Protection removed.

A very good insight to 'Component Protection' here: Audi-Resource - Component Protection

Let us know the outcome and cost for the fix.

Just to complete this thread on behalf of IMVISH: The CP on the amplifier was removed for £60 (very reasonable as I know of quotes for £200+!). I would commend the services of:

    Chris Majewski
    Service Manager

    Audi VW Specialist Centre Ltd
    Unit 24 Hawthorn Centre,
    Elmgrove Road,
    HA1 2RF,
    Harrow
    0208 4277 688

Of course after using my VCDS services to confirm you have CP in the first instance! I will quote the reply I received to my query on the removal of CP:

    "
Yes we do remove component protection but as this is anti-theft protection.

We need to make sure the component was not stolen (we need to see ID of a car's owner and he should have an invoice or proof of purchase for a used unit in case if it turns out to be recorded stolen)
The price for removing component protection is per car and is £72"

I am sure we all support the ideals of not allowing stolen parts to be re-cycled but I can think of two instances that would justify the removal of CP:

    • Hardware recovered from write-offs
    • Owners who upgrade they hardware and wish to sell on the old kit.

    I think that nicely concludes this thread . . . . . . . .

Their are two other valid ways of components going into CP.

MMI Firmware updates (Bose AMP's being the most common)
    New Parts from Audi
