A4 Roof problem

I have a 2006 TDI cabriolet. Today I put the roof down all ok. Drove home parked with intention of washing it so went to put roof up. The box lid opened an inch then nothing else happened. I managed to override it manually but would welcome ideas about the possible problem. I have read about fluid level problems and micro switch problems. Any help gratefully received

Well a similar thing happened to the wife's a few weeks back. I took all the trim out of the boot to access the motor and gave it a tap with a hammer. Then I disconnected and reconnected all the plugs. Its been ok since but the motor brushes possibly require a clean.
