    Hello guys,
I am considering updating my VW RNS 510 sat nav. I have seen discs advertised for 25 ish that are supposed to be genuine VW parts. If VW update it with a genuine disc, what is the cost? I am not that au fait with sat nav discs, so what are your recommendations, real VW by VW, done by VW or a disc advertised as gen VW? Also how do I find out what version I have now?

There may be later information available than this. But to tell what will install on your RNS510 would have to know its model # revision

Thank you for your reply. Sadly I am a bit miffed with these new gadgets in cars and still use the map books and forward planning. Where can I find the model number of the RNS 510? It is a Sept 09 2.0 Ltr TDi Highline. Any ideas of the cost of an update?

I have had a VW quote of 125, so I will get a new paper map book unless anyone knows any cheaper options.

For maps, my last JVC update (the KW NX7000/EE was introduced into UK market in 2008, I bought in '10) was €109.90 (plus bank's "foreign transaction" rip-off fee) branded TeleAtlas but sold by TomTom in 2013. Previous to that all map updates were annual and free. My last firmware update was free in '11. Yes, I could've bought a book. When was that book last updated? Sorry, missed the point.

To show the current firmware and map versions on an RNS510 press and hold in the Setup button for 10 secs. If this doesn't give you the screen then it may have to be activated in VCDS

    Hope that helps

Mine doesn't match any of those, I had the unit out recently to install a DAB Pure kit.

The part number on top is 1T0 035 680 C, I haven't updated it for a few years and the maps are out of date so could do with a refresh.

    I found some info here.

I've managed to install 3810 on my unit (1T0 035 680 C). Seems to start up a lot faster, left the car 3 days so no battery drain (I've never suffered with that though, mine is a Sept 2007 model so it might not affect me anyway).

I've obtained the latest maps as well but not sure if they'll install on my unit as it's pretty old and I can't remember the HDD size.
