    Hi,

I've been having a problem with my gearbox for a few weeks now. When driving I'd find it hard to select 5th and 6th and then the next day it would be fine again.
It's now got that bad that I can no longer select them. It's like there is something blocking them.

Reverse and gears 1 - 4 are perfect, no issues. There is no crunching or grinding sounds when changing gears and no problems with the clutch.

I took it to my local Audi specialist, He had a look at the linkage and selectors and said the fault seems to be internal and would mean removing and stripping the gearbox which would take a few days and cost quite a bit. Estimated around £1000

Has anyone come across this before? or any ideas what it might be?

Seems like a very expensive repair and I'd like to rule out smaller things before dropping that kind of money.

I have had the same problem, did you find your gear stick became loose when in 6th gear also? Mine only gets bad when I have done a few miles on the motorway and have stayed in 6th gear for a few miles.

    Hi,

I didn't find it becoming loose really because it was a nightmare trying to actually select 6th gear.

I replaced the gearbox in the end, I picked up a second hand gearbox and had it fitted locally. Still cost around £600/£700 but it's been running smoothly since.

Best of luck getting it fixed!
