Nice info phope and thanks for sharing (and educating me - I'd assumed BiTdi was the only car using this) but it does not contradict or negate my previous point - trying to add a free flowing exhaust to a BiTdi (or indeed a Golf GTD with the 'sport and sound' option) seems pointless as you already HAVE a free flowing exhaust - the diagrams that you provided (very interesting) show the difference on the Golf - you completely lose the rear silencer which is where a lot of the baffles and associated back pressure and gas flow restriction are.

I was aware of the 'bulkhead' speak "sound actuator" hack (for lack of a better word) but it is unclear to me if the bothered to fit this to the BiTdi - I'm not sure that they did... maybe you have more insight.

The standard option is a bulkhead mounted electronic device ('soundaktor' in VAG speak) which is ECU controlled, creates a vibrating sound against the bulkhead, and is selectable from the driver profile menu - latest cars allow the driver to control the loudness setting independently of other driver profile settings.

For £250, the 'Sport & Sound' optioned cars have exactly the same tech as the Bi-TDI models, ECU controlled speaker in the exhaust system, again from Eberspacher. You can have the same aftermarket control boxes as well to play around with the sound output from the exhaust pipes

To answer the point about what is fitted to the BiTdi, it has both the bulkhead sound actuator and the active exhaust.
I was playing around with vcds and have turned down the volume completely for the bulkhead actuator as I prefer the car to be quiet inside when cruising but still wanted the external noise of the exhaust.

Thanks! Shame you cannot expose a volume control for it in the MMI (or the hidden menu).

Back to the original subject, it has to be the V6T badge. It does get put on an A6 diesel in other countries, but just not here. In Europe Audi put it on the updated Competition model, based on the BiTdi. Would be nice if they sold it here too!

If you like the look then you do it! Just because someone doesnt like it then it should not stop you doing it if you like it. Do we all want to drive the same coloured car as everyone??
