I get the vibe that fixed 9k oil changes are understandably preferred by private buyers (who no doubt would prefer even shorter intervals) and I can't turn back time on my C6 3.0 V6 TDI which has been on variable servicing to its present 48k miles.

BUT, I have time to recover this on my C7 2.0 V6 TDI which currently sits at 11k. It would be due a variable service in another 6 or 7 months, however I'm thinking of getting a crafty oil change (I have the oil, and will get a VW filter) to appease any future buyer, whilst keeping the car on the variable servicing regime as my current low mileage will explode temporarily - I just don't know when!

    a) Any views on this as its likely to be through an independent given the fact that thebenefit of the new oil and filter will be short-lived?

    b) As I'm not planning on changing from variable - just adding in an oil change, do I need to watch out for anything if the ignition remains off throughout, so the sensors are unlikely to register anything other than a sudden improvement in oil quality and possibly volume too?

I have access to VCDS and would be using a very trusted and reputable indy who owned a non VAG franchise which has been absorbed by one of the larger dealer groups.

Any advice and thoughts gratefully received. Thanks.

Long life oil during servicing BUT with 9K/365 day oil changes (roughly the halfway point usually) is what we recently had to revert to on DPF cars from our prefered 9K/365D servicing due to the stupid debacle concerning VAG UK Platinum oil not being suitable for VAG cars with a DPF. On my own petrol turbo engined car I use Longlife oil and change it every 5K miles.

Thanks S. Did send you a message on your own system a couple of weeks or so ago as I was planning a trip back to LE but it hasn't happened yet and I'm probably a 1000 miles more the wrong side of that 9k comfort zone. Anyway I've picked up a filter today so will sort out ASAP.

I assume I don't have to tell the car anything through VCDS as I'm not changing to fixed - just doing covert interim changes. I'll get a receipt for the future owner's documentation and probably run scans before and after to be on the safe side.

    Cheers for the advice.

Just searched the handbook technical section and also the oil section but couldn't find capacity with filter for my CDUD 245PS (180kW ?) engine. Anyone know where to find this as the damned electronic gauge will require the ignition to be on and will shout its displeasure before the process is even complete. I guess the guy doing it can check Autodata etc. but I would rather underfill, then top-up than overfill.

The filter is just an element so I don't know if I need more than that since I had presumed a can-like filter as used in my older less sophisticated cars

6.4 litres with filter according to my enquiries in case I forget or anyone else needs to know. Shout up if you disagree on the amount.

I'm going to get 6 litres filled, then interrogate the MMI to top up slowly from there - or does anyone have a better suggestion? Don't want to trigger any "low oil" (or opposite) alarms.
