    Hi Guys,

Pretty impressed with the LED headlights on my FL A6, but I think that main beam assist function could do with a little tweaking. The headlights switch between main and dipped automatically when there is oncoming traffic and when I drive on a road with street lighting, but there is a big difference in reaction time in these two scenarios. On a dark road, after a car has passed, the headlights almost instantaneously revert to main beam, but if I drive on a road with intermittent street lighting, there is a 10-20 second delay before main beam is activated after driving into the darkness. Has anyone else noticed this effect and is there any way to modify this behaviour?

    Thanks.

Look in MMI. There are "Early" and "Late" settings to experiment with.

I did, but found the technology so trigger-happy I've just turned it off. Not for me, but probably works OK in the right circumstances - just not most of mine (bendy A roads with oncoming cars every 20 secs or so).

It doesn't work if there is ambient light (such as street lights) so temporarily switches off.

    Thanks for the replies.
The issue is that it takes too long to reactivate after leaving a lit area - up to 20 sec, whereas on an unlit road when on high beam it almost instantaneously switches between dipped and main after an oncoming car has passed. So, it works OK on unlit roads, but takes too long to activate after leaving a lit road heading into darkness. The 'Early and Late' settings seem to relate to how early the automatic headlights are switched on when the light starts to fade at dusk. I was wondering if there is a VCDS setting to fine tune the sensitivity?

There is a setting to change the speed it activates (it in the A7 VCDS section) but not found one to change the behaviour you mention.

Just wondering if there has been any VCDS updates to fine tune the high beam assist delay time?

By comparison, the Matrix LEDs are faultless.

They turn on main beam based on either GPS definition of town/village limit or the lack of street lights where you are. They then switch off bulbs to create dark spots, so as not to blind people other motorists.

I have yet to be flashed once despite effectively driving with main beam on all the time.

There must have been a lot of work done in setting up the parameters for both light systems and can't see how user input could be accommodated.

I agree with the comments on the Matrix, the integration with the nav unit works really well.

I think I have had a couple of people flash me though, if they are a long way away on a straight road, it seems to take a while to decide it wants to start to dim some bulbs.
Will have to see if the same happens again, or if I was just thinking I had been flashed, and actually they had just gone over a small bump.

I am considering ordering the Matrix headlights for my next car. It sounds like you'd recommend them as a worthwhile option?
