Hi. This is my first post on a forum so go easy on me.
I've got a 2004 Mk5 Golf GT 2.0 FSI. Not had it very long but running into problems already, all electrical and mostly drivers side (all except nav) but I'm sure they're connected. Right, here goes! Drivers mirror/switch - I press up on the switch, it goes right, I press down, it goes left, I press left, it goes up and so on. Power fold mirrors - I turn the dial to fold the mirrors in, left one works fine, drivers mirror folds out the wrong way. Drivers window works but one touch up and down will not work (have tried resetting the limits), passenger windows both work fine on one touch, drivers rear will only auto one way. Stereo/nav (mfd2) - will not turn on with ignition, have to do it manually every time I turn the car on, turns off before I take the key out of the ignition, won't remember where I was on cd but remembers radio stations settings etc. Sometimes get a bulb failure light on dash but goes once I cycle through from auto to dipped and back again.
Had it on vag com today (wouldn't print results though which is really annoying) but all the mechanic said was it was showing faults in all items I mentioned.
Not sure if it could be a problem with a module?
Pulling my hair out here so any help would be great!
    Cheers.

If you can get vag com back on it, check the coding of the door control units just in case somebody has been messing with it.

Here is sample coding from another 2004 Golf (3 door model) that might help confirm if yours is correct :

    Driver-side door electronics - MIDI

    Part No : 1K0 959 701E

    Coding 52

    ------------

    Passenger-side door electronics - MIDI

    Part No : 1K0 959 702E

    Coding 52

Ok, thanks. Will get it back on this week. Mine is a 5 door, does that matter?

Coding on a 5 door models will probably be different but I'd guess both the N/S & O/S doors should have the same coding number. So check the coding of your passenger door and see if that matches the drivers.
If not, take a note of the original coding number of your driver's door, then change the coding to the same number as the passenger door and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't fix it, just re-enter the original coding.

Update : Just checked a 4 door model and it also has a coding of 52 on each door too. Yours may have a different number because yours is a higher spec model. You could enter 52 in both your doors (if they're different) and see if that changes the way the mirror is working. Just be sure to keep a note of the original coding numbers before making changes so you change it back if you need to.

Hi Jim. I've had a look at the coding today. The passenger door is on 54 and the drivers door is on 677. I changed the drivers door to 54 as well but it just started controlling the passenger door so I changed it back.

Anyway, did a full scan and here are the results :

Well, it looks like the driver door control module has maybe already been replaced. The part number suffix is L on the driver door and G on the passenger door. On the diag logs I have, the two doors have the same suffix. That's not to say that in itself is the problem but maybe someone has replaced the module to try and fix this fault before.

I also notice that VCDS can't communicate with the right rear door. The front & rear door modules are linked. Communication with the rear doors is via the front door modules. The communication faults could be due to wiring damage in the loom between the car body and the door. It might be worth popping off the rubber tubing where the wiring routes into the door and see if there is any damage. Here is a link that might be worth a read :

    1 Fault Found:

01552 - Motor for Central Locking; Drivers Door (V56); Lock=20
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit

Interestingly, I just looked up the '00932' fault code and it says "incorrect window motor/door control module installed"
So with that in mind and you noticing that the part number is different, I'm just wondering if someone has had a go at it before and installed the wrong part.
Think I might call VW tomorrow to see if they'll give me the correct part number and/or coding in case that is wrong, before I start taking the door apart.

Thanks for all your help, I'll update you with any progress.

    Dave.

In my experience, the 00932 code is normally logged because the window up/down limits haven't been set for the one touch operation, but you said you had already tried to set them in your original post.

The parts guys at your local dealer should be able to tell you if the part number is correct for your chassis number, but they wont be able to advise you on the correct coding because that depends on the what vehicle the part is to be fitted to. I'd be surprised if a parts guy even knew what coding was. I'm pretty sure nobody in the parts at my local dealership would have a clue, and having seen some of the techs there, I'm not sure they would know either

Just a quick update. Dealer didn't want to pay to have the car repaired so he offered to give me my money back. Bit sad to let the car go - then I bought myself a GTI which made up for it!
Thanks for your help, much appreciated!
