I've purchased the AMI cable with an Apple Lightning adapter P/N 4F0051510AC and it arrived today. I've plugged it into my 2008 Avant 3.0 Quattro Le Mans which I think has 2G. Unfortunately when I plug it in I get the error "item my not be connected properly or may not be working correctly", the device also does not charge. I found a very detailed thread from last year with lots of good info from gup (again ) and it seemed to be a similar issue, but they weren't using the same AMI cable (old thread here). I followed the steps there and found that I was using an older AMI firmware (830) and I've used CD1 of the 5570 update to get to 850, unfortunately I have the same error.

I'm now sat in my car while the other CDs do their business, but I don't think they'll alter the AMI any further. I tried an AMI USB cable from my wife's 2013 VW Polo and it charges my phone and gives an error message when plugged into my AMI that the cable isn't supported. So there at least seems to be power to my AMI unit. The car didn't come with a cable, so I haven't got anything else to test it with at the moment.

The cable I bought has a white grommet and from what I've read it should work on a 2G system. I think the next step may be a USB AMI cable, but I wondered if anyone had any other thoughts?

    Thanks

    Nick

Well I've been down to the dealers today and they confirmed a lightning cable won't work with my car. Tried a standard 30 pin cable while I was there and that worked so at least the AMI is okay. I have an official Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter and that worked on the AMI cable too, so I can still connect my iPhone 6. Now to see if I can return the cable I can't use... At least at the dealers I could spend even more money by ordering a new start/stop button and volume knob

If you can't return it, advertise it in the for sale section. I'm sure someone will have it.
