Hi, I am waiting, more or less, patiently to take delivery of a Golf GTE.
I don't drive a VAG car at the moment but have been a fan for nearly 50 years Since my father bought a 1500 Beetle new in 1967, we traveled all over the UK in that with a caravan on the back. I learnt car mechanics changing the oil in it and I still have nightmares over changing heat exchangers and exhausts! Things weren't much better when dad traded up to a 1600 TA Fastback. Still those bleeding heat exchangers and on this one we changed the gearbox ourselves, all didn't go to plan so we had engine and gear box in and out 5 times in one summer!
My brother joined the party with one of the early 1100 Golfs (I thought he was a traitor at the time, giving up air cooled) and eventually as dad progressed through a polo to a P reg Golf GTI my brother moved on to Jettas (a 1.3 and then a GLI) 2 motor caravans (rear engined but not the classic type) and then a Seat Toledo followed by a Bora which my nephew now drives.
I entered the fray with a 1303 beetle and then an A reg polo (didn't they used to call them baker's vans?) then a K reg Passat estate with an add on rear facing bench seat, a K reg Polo provided a second car. Moving to Berlin I moved to a LHD Polo 1.4 which I then imported into the UK as 'R4AVW'. This was ultimately replaced by a T Reg Polo estate Turbo Diesel which my son used. Another move abroad saw me in a Multivan 4WD 2.0L Turbo Diesel which was fantastic on the motorways between UK and Switzerland and unstoppable on Snow Covered Swiss Mountain Tracks. Returning to the UK without the Multivan I rescued a friends P Reg Caravelle which was headed for the scrap yard for no greater crime than having had it's clutch go. This proved brilliant for moving people, furniture and dogs in any combination and shod with Michelin AlpinA4's was also unstoppable on snow. It was also a great tow vehicle once used to tow my friend's Toyota Previa and family of 6 30 miles home after the engine on the Toyota packed up.
i guess I should also reference my younger brother who has progressed through several Polo's, dad's old Golf GTI and is now driving a 2013 Skoda Octavia 1.2 Turbo petrol. (how the technology has moved on).
I am asking the dealer to fit a tow ar to the GTE because it should make a great tow car.
