    Hi all, I need to adjust the mainbeam (NOT the dipped beam) on my Golf Mk 6. I have asked 2 garages to do this and both have failed to so despite charging for the work. Both sides point down immediately in front of the car.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks in advance.

    Does the height adjuster wheel next to the headlight switch have any effect on the aim? Which type of headlights does it have? Both elements are on the same adjustment.

    1 = lateral 2 = height

    Hi, No the wheel adjustment only seems to move the dipped beam. Mainbeam shares a bulb with the driving lights and I haven't yet found the adjuster for it. I think the dealers checked dipped beam only.

    There is only one adjustment which moves the entire assembly inside all at once.

    So mainbeam can't be adjusted independently of dipped beam? Thanks for your help so far Crasher but I am left with a puzzle - if dipped is adjusted correctly mainbeam should also be, but it is not, as mentioned both mainbeams point down to the right and immediately in front of the car giving no distance lighting at all.
    Any suggestions anyone? Has anyone had the same problem?

    Correct, the main beam aim is tied into the dipped beam aim. The usual cause of things like this is incorrectly fitted or poor quality bulbs. It makes me suspect the H15 bulb is incorrectly fitted BUT if it was, it would not work. However it IS possible to fit the H7 bulb upside down.

    Thanks I will check the type and fittings. One other thing occurred to me while mulling this over - if the wheel next to the headlamp switch was in the fully up position when the lights were adjusted by the dealer the aim might perhaps have been adjusted down to conform? Thus the main beam would correspondingly be adjusted down (too far) does it make a difference what position the wheel is in when adjusting the aim?

    Is there a chance that the bulbs have been replaced with the incorrect bulbs .?

    I queried this 5 years ago when I first got my Mk6. If you are 4/5 up you need the dipped adjuster down but it doesn't move the 'full', thus the beam is up in the tree's and you have a very significant 'black spot' in the middle of your vision. Very poor design from VW on this.
