    Good evening,

I have read the comments on this website (VW Mk5 Golf TSi Engine & Timing Chain Problem - Adam Lewin) with great interest but also great sadness. I am actually in the process of buying an Audi A3 1.4T FSI, it is 58 reg, but i can’t to work out if my engine is affected (CAXC / CMSA) or whether the issue is confined to a twin charged - supercharged / turbo. I think that I will pull out of the deal if it is as I don’t want to risk a bill for 1000’s + the service history is incomplete. Also there is mention that you have to be careful when parked on a step drive / road, the advice is not to leave in drive if you are facing uphill. You should instead leave the gear in reverse, else you could cause the chain to slip. I have rather steep drive!

I was really excited about collecting my Audi A3 this weekend, however what with the above and also reported issues with S Tronic (DSG) I am now instead very stressed out and prepared to pull out of the deal and lose my 200 pound deposit.

Any thoughts on this subject would be gratefully received.

    Simon

I was hoping for some advice / feedback on whether this single turbo 1.4 engine is subject to the timing chain issues, most of the horror stories appear to surround the turbo / supercharged version of this engine. The stories read are from VW owners rather than Audi - however I thought at the they use the same engines??

Sorry for reply to an old thread but I just thought I would warn people who might be looking at a Audi A3 with the 1.4 tfsi engine.
mine was a 2007 model with 75,000 miles on the clock with a part service history which I brought for a reasonable £4700 6 weeks ago. But the chain slipped on a steep drive causing £1800 worth of engine damage so please if your looking at a 1.4 tfsi engine please walk away !

Can anyone shed any more information on this? Is the single turbo 125hp unit prone to timing chain problems? And any truth to the steep hill claim? Thanks
