Hi. I have had an A4 Allroad from new for the past 11 months. It is the 2 litre, TDI, stronic model. It is a great car but I do find the steering a bit directionless and vague. I appreciate there is a little more roll in the corners as it sits a tad higher, but I am constantly having to correct the line and it is beginning to get my goat. I wondered if I took the tyres down from the standard 18inch (245/45 R18) to 17inches whether this might iprove things a bit? Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks. Gus.

Have you done any basic checks for free play in steering and suspension? A track control arm with excess wear can cause this. Also, tyres and pressures? No faulty tyres etc.

I can confirm this at motorway speeds you feel like you need to make constant little minor corrections. Quite jarring.

My 3.0 Avant is same, constant minor corrcetions. It's been checked by Audi etc. I have driven other Audi's inc. A6 and they all seem to do it, Audi electronic steering is naff, that''s about it. Awesome car ruined by not being able to go in a straight line.

My 19" summer wheels are better that the 18" winter ones, experimenting with pressures is worth it though and it can help it go in a straight line, the door sticker says my 19 fronts should be 42psi, that is so wrong and like rock. I run them at 35psi and they have worn down completley even, steering is miles better too, tyre manufactures websites also suggest this lower figure.

I find at speeds over 85 the steering is great, but Audi have it set far to sensitive below this, I have sent letters to head office, they don't give a ****, they don't even reply. Try the tyre pressures but if the steering still winds you up buy another car thats not an Audi next time, I wanted a Q5 next but I'm not prepared to have such **** steering again, that and being ignored.

Audi lost my custom, Rant over
