    Hello,

Back in October i noticed car become smokey so I took the turbo off and noticed that it's pushing oil into exhaust via turbo. I bought replacement CHRA (turbo cartridge). It was fine until January, car become smokey again. Exhaust tips were covered in oil, so i took the turbo off. Found the same problem as previous. I check oil return pipe - it's clear. I checked engine for excessive crankcase pressure, but it's normal for PD engine (i have seen a lot worse).

Both - original turbo and replacement CHRA had minimal shaft play - just dumping oil into exhaust.

Any idea where to start looking for a problem?

Car has got 85k on the clock.

there are some really dodgy turbo's on the market right now, from china. did you fit one of these ? you also need to confirm where the oil is leaking. is it into the hot side of the turbo or into the cold side and then going through the intercooler, or is it from the engine breather. was the problem cured with the new chra and where did you buy it from.

I bought from ebay, company called Nerings from Latvia. I took the turbo core apart and there is no visible damage. Even the old turbo shaft had very minimal movement.

Oil is leaking through the hot side into exhaust as I could see marks of fresh oil in the exhaust.

New CHRA cured the problem for about 2 months, then started again.

hmmm, are you certain the drain is working ok, even as far as there is no blockage actually inside the block, and that the correct unions are used as i think one has a restrictor in it , the actually connectors on the oil feed pipe. also, would it be worth checkig the oil pressure just incase the relief valve is faulty and its running far too much prssure. thats all i can think of really, new chra cures it because its all tight, but loosens up, nothing wrong but oil is forced out. too much pressure or nowhere to go.

Do you know where is relief valve is located? I don't think oil pump can be at fault as it's chain driven.

I used existing turbo fitting for new CHRA.

if the relief valve jams then there will be too much pressure, doesn't matter what drives it. its like a wastegate sticking closed, soemthing fails as a result. its part of the pump, not sure how to get to it. i would measure the pressure with a gauge of some sort to rule it out or in. if its ok, look at the drain.

Any idea how much pressure should it be running at ? Where is the best point to check oil pressure ?

the oil pressure switch hole . most pressure gauges will have an adaptor that will screw in here. not sure what the pressure should be though. you will have to find that in a manual or ask crasher, he will know.
